    Jack, I wrongly assumed it was a compact, the Fuji looks similar to my Nikon P500 and we are both itching to try them out.:fingerdrum:.

    I too found that high capacity ni-mh batteries lasted very well in the Fuji S9000 I had, though I always ensured I had a spare set handy.
    The main reason that DSLR cameras are less demanding on battery capacity is that zooming the lens is done manually whereas with compact and some bridge cameras zooming is done by a motor which places a relatively high demand on current compared with all the other functions of the camera.

      Glad that you are enjoying your camera Nick and am sure you will have many happy photographic years with it :thumbsup:

      I am sure your dear daughter won't mind you trying out the portrait feature on her and she might have some flowers open either in the garden or the house where you can try out your macro skills:)

          Well I managed to take some pictures yesterday indoors and find they are all out of focus:DOH:Tinkering today and the best so far was a full zoom.
          I can see this is gonna be emotional:o

            Just wondering, had you got it on auto focus and set right? mine has a button to change where it focuses (if you see what I mean) as well as an auto / manual focus switch
