I only watch things like "Frozen Planet" (which was brill). Can't stand "reality TV", mindless game shows, so-called celebrities doing things they don't normally do (or have any aptitude for) etc. etc. I'm with Clara on the property shows, can't stand antique shows.........I'd better shut up, or the list will go on and on and on and on.....................

Property shows, 'talent' shows, reality shows, I loathe them all (along with the endless repeats of the Antiques Roadshow which my elderly neighbour watches).

If you want a little light entertainment sometime, try turning to ITV3 - it's the station of choice for my aforementioned elderly neighbour. The programmes are pretty much wall-to-wall repeats and so boring that even the announcers are comatose. During the last week alone I've heard 'Later, Sherlock Holmes and his brother Hastings ....': 'Can Poirot solve the mystery without leaving his flat while Mycroft does the investigating?' and 'DI Foyle investigates murder, robbery, and espionage ...' And that's without the many occasions upon which they give you the synopsis of the episode they showed yesterday!

Just as a BTW - elderly neighbour is almost 100, he says he enjoyes the Antiques Roadshow because 'I'm older than some of the things they value'!

I think what I can't stand about her is the way she tried to transform herself in a "domestic goddess" once the housing crash began. I remember some awful show where she was going to kit out each room with second hand furniture and save money etc. Ended up paying a grand for some antique bath from some poncey antique shop, after haggling of course. No raiding ebay, gumtree, bootsales or reading a skip for her!

Then she makes these awful programmes on crafts for the home. The programme would have been better imo if she wasn't presenting it, as she seems to know sod all about the subject! The experts seem to be showing her what to do, while she acts like a frightened child with a sewing machine and from that the viewer gains no knowledge.

Before then I didn't mind her as much. :)

      Rant over

I assume it's an example of dumbing down. If Kirsty plays dumb then the viewers needn't feel intimidated and even dumber.

No. It doesn't really work for me either. Those programmes are OK as taster sessions but anyone with any real interest would get a good book out of the library or get their grannie to teach them.

It did get my goat a bit that some of the judges gave in to the TV effect and awarded her efforts a prize. Was that infantilising her or what? Other (competent) competitors were filmed looking tight-lipped when the results were announced. It was a bit like when the organiser of the raffle wins the big prize - the only done thing is to throw the number back in!

I absolutely love any kind of property show despite (maybe because of) the truly unspeakable people. I think they give good advice to people who don't realise that family grime, dog hair and piles of junk in the corners won't sell your home but I'm a bit mystified when they stroll around a perfectly pleasant and respectable house imperiously announcing "This just isn't working!" before spending twenty grand on pre-sale titivation. I wouldn't let them in my house.
