Hi all, I'm returning with my pic of my attempt to grow moss. As advised, I blended some moss with cream. (wife was out Xmas shopping) I painted the cream onto a coulpe of rocks and a lantern that I am hoping to use in my Japanese garden when I get it started.
Problem ! My dog went straight to work licking the cream off !!! I will keep an eye on him when he is out.
    Hope the link works guys.

Hi catztail, she does now ! The cat has just walked up to the lantern while my wife was putting the washing out and starting licking it !!! The cat started licking it, not the wife !
'what the heck is the cat doing ? what's that white stuff on the lantern ?'
I had to tell her the truth guys.

Hi catztail, did she get mad ? Hey I'm an expert. I quickly changed the conversation to, 'hey, I used the rest of the cream to make a lemon tart. Do you wanna cuppa tea with a slice luv ?'

We don't have any trouble growing moss :heehee:. We just turn our backs and it appears :loll:

The old traditional way of getting moss to grow quickly was to put a cow pat in a quarter of a bucket of water, stir into a paste and spread on the place where you want the moss to grow. :dbgrtmb:

I don't think the cat will lick :heehee: but not sure about the dog!! :D

Heh heh. That's the benefit of living alone, I can keep compost in the bath if I want to! And lick the cream off household items myself.

So - you're saying that if you whiz up moss and cream in a blender and paint it onto inanimate objects you will get furry pebbles and chairs? How long will it take? What sort of moss? Double or single? Long life or pasteurised? Is there anything else we need to know?

HI Madahhlia , I`ll repost the receipe again so that you can try as well and get few more picture up ; ).
Take a clump of healthy moss and crumble it into your blender.
Add 2 cups of buttermilk (double cream or condenced milk will do as well )and 2 cups of water (use rain water)
Blend at the lowest speed until it is completely mixed and the consistency of a thin milk shake. (add water if necessary)
Paint the mixture onto rocks, pots or statuary, or simply pour it on the ground wherever you'd like your moss to grow!

Note....you can use all native English moss as much as they have the reproductive egg cell ready......apparently they have sperm and egg cells....a micro sort of flower and this is the time of the year .

they suggest to use buttermilk , because it will stuck on object and the bacteria will help the reproduction.

years ago I`ve seen this moss stones in italy and they told me that it called kakabama (or similar ? ) and it a japanese thing.

Hi Gazania....the web site was saying about 6 weeks , but it was saying to do it in October as well , only done mine yesterday so finger cross .
keep it in the shadow and moist part of your garden.......i was reading somewhere else that it work even with dry moss .....i was just thinking if is possible to reproduce white reindeer moss often sold on xmas decoration .
