    Hello

Sugar is sweet in taste as we all know but the bitter truth is that it lead to various diseases which is dangerous for your health as well as for the life, sugar lead to diabetes, heart disease, and not good for the body, so take the sugar in limited quantity.

The sugar industry is not too hot either, with Haitian workers kept in abject poverty and near slavery in the Dominican republic so we in the West can grow fat and bloated!

use unrefined cane sugar (I used to work as a design engineer in the sugar industry in south africa)

cost a few pence more than white refined sugar but tastes the same and is healthier ... here in the UK, sugar is made of sugar beet and not sugar cane

artificial sweeters are very bad for you (aspartame and similar) .... big pharma are even looking at changing the name now, so as to 'fool' the masses

I always ferment my homebrew down to absolute dryness and don't sweeten, making it far more healthy than drinking apple juice which contains over 20 teaspoons of sugar per litre. The worst drink for sugar content is grape juice which can contain over 30 teaspoons of sugar per litre.

I've been slowly phasing out refined white sugar in our house, in favour of unrefined cane sugar for most stuff, and honey for some stuff.

I think the biggest problem is that refined white sugar is not very natural at all, and our bodies have no idea how to process it properly, so if I understand correctly, it more or less just goes straight into the blood stream almost as it is, and upsets the delicate balance of chemicals that should exist within us.

I also read something about a nasty by-product of metabolising it, that slowly poisons us. Something to do with the chemicals used in the refining process, or was it something to do with the chemistry of burning refined sugar. It was something like that. Unfortunately I see chemistry as black magic, so its a bit over my head.

strangely ... my brother in law came to visit from south africa earlier this year

he owns a large deep sea fishing boat and takes tourists on deep sea fishing cruises ... coke a cola is his 'staple diet' for rough seas

he is a coca cola addict .... first thing he done at Tesco .... he bought 3 2l bottles of coca cola (not the tesco brand)

after one sip, his face screwed up and he said it ain't coke?

south africa has the exact same recipe, except they use sugar cane sugar instead of sugar beet sugar

Nah... you are asking the wrong questions....

look in the mirror ... (one of those concave/convex ones that women use and that 'magnifies' your face ....

            then .... smile wide ...

            the ask yourself:

why is the hair growing out my ears?

why is the hair growing out my nose?

why is their hair falling out my head?

why do I have a double chin?

            why are my teeth yellow?

..... answer .... old age, stress and sugar and beer

            :loll:

I only use unrefined sugar for brewing, too many hangovers from using the refined stuff.

Sweetners are very bad, the body can't process them.
