    Digressing slightly, but factoring all the risks we encounter in life, it can only be described as a miracle that any of us survive.

    And consider this (not my wisdom, ripped off from some scientist bloke on telly): The fact that any of us exist is a statistical miracle. Since the days when all there was was amoebas, to present day, not a single one of your (or my) ancestors failed to breed. What's the odds of that?:dbgrtmb:

          I'm with you there Dai. Also only 1 cup of Coffee daily - first thing with 1/2 spoon of Sugar.

          What gets me is almost every tradesman I've come across seem to take between 3-6 spoons in any hot drink, no matter how many cups they have.
          They should all be obese and dead by 50. Most are not???

          Could the experts be wrong?:mute:

          That's a great old myth! Sugar does not cause diabetes; obesity and lack of exercise do. It used to be called 'sugar' diabetes because of the body's inability to metabolise carbohydrates (which is the food group that sugar belongs to). I know this because, apart from being a nurse, I have developed diabetes due to being overweight and under exercised! :heehee:

            :) I hate this site sometimes.......trying to wean me of one of the loves of my life,I have a sweet tooth,I love cake, chocolate and suger in tea and coffee...................."blast" I have cut it down a little in my flask this morning,three spoonfulls......not four.:(

              Welcome to the club Daisees:thumbsup:If you have been put on Metformin then your glucose levels will soon start to come down along with the weight,thats is once you have got over the side affects of Metformin although they don't call it Fartformin for nothing:D

              Are you diet only,or are you on the meds?

              Good luck with it and keep us posted as to how it goes

              Excesses are bad, yes, but I think that what is very important is to keep the diet stable, since your body will be adjusted in relation to the intake.

              So if some changes have to occur is best to do them gradually.

                I don't sweeten much of my food, mainly tea and porridge :heehee:, but don't use sugar. I only use Stevia (it's a very sweet herb that has the extract taken from its leaves and distilled as the chemical stevioside STEVIOSIDE. I. THE STRUCTURE OF THE GLUCOSE MOIETIES - The Journal of Organic Chemistry (ACS Publications) and said to be 300 times as sweet as sucrose) but if you buy it you need to get the one that doesn't have sweeteners as an additive! I have also grown it and used the leaves as a sweetener.

                On the Fartformin and off it again, Kandy. I was (self) diagnosed in March and embarked on this weight loss programme which helped me shed nearly 40lbs so my nurse took me off it. Seems my bloods are now so regular it's almost like the TT2 has been reversed! :yess:

                  I have a spoonfull of golden syrup on my porridge in the mornings, that's the only sugary thing I add to my food.

                  I love boiled sweets though - my favourite is the proper old fashioned traditional sherbet lemons. They are OK in moderation, I can make a 1/4 last a couple of days sometimes :o

                  Thanks CC, I think it has long gone. Don't worry I've a photographic memory for sweet shop locations, some people navigate by pubs or churches, not me :dbgrtmb: Theres a sweet wholesalers in Portsmouth that I happen to go past every now and then :o
