Something I observed today having gone to M&S to check out turkeys - £45 for a huge bronze turkey all ready larded and truly oven ready! Aldi had one more my size (4.5 kg) for £19.99. Nearly bought one but checked out Asda (my usual haunt) and found exactly the same size for £18!

Yesterday was watching a cookery show - can't even remember the channel. But who ever/what ever it was, they had about 4 dozen folk blind taste testing 5 Christmas puddings. They were M&S, Somerfield, Asda, Aldi and Waitrose.

Amazingly, the winning pud was Aldi! Who'd a thunk it?!

We get a free one from hubby's work. Normally we give it away but we are a bit broke this year so I've decided to cook the thing. As for a pud, I don't know. Hubby is diabetic so maybe he can have his butterscotch angels delight. I have some icecream.......... haagen daz cookie dough, 1/2 price. Quite cheap Christmas meal!!

saw a turkey today in a butcher's front window

Have never ever seen such a huge turkey .... I very much doubt that it would even fit in an aga oven

there was no price on it, but looking at the size, I would guess that you could feed 20 people easily

I'd a thunk it and often do. They had a bewildering selection when I was there yesterday, different sizes and luxury levels etc. Nobody was shopping much, maybe they'll be reduced after Christmas.

Thanks gcc. He's only found out recently so we don't know the ins and outs yet. I feel guilty having stuff he can't have. Well, in front of him anyway......:heehee:

      Well lucky me
I got my 7.8kg frozen turkey tonight free from my next door neighbours

He is a manager at the poultry farm down the road, his wife is a supervisor there
They said they only wanted one but the company insists every worker gets a turkey
So this is the third year they have gifted one to me
They advise me before hand that I am getting it, so do not go and order one

We are all good neigbours here, help each other out, so what goes around comes around
Remember the POLISH neighbours Christmas wreath, well they gave us an as good as, Hand made Crimbo card, complete with flashing blue lights
He is also a manger but at the vegetable produce down the road, so today a sack of winter veg appeared including "iceberg" lettuces

Over the year I use my electronic knowledge, and general mechanic information to assist them as needs be, provide the use of petrol mowers and hedge cutters along with helping each other with different jobs, transport to hospital appointments shops and things

What a pleasant world this can be sometimes

I have invited strangers to Crimbo dinner before

That's really neat, Jack. Nice to hear of such generosity.
That's not really necessary. Sugar can be used. And ordinary jellies, jams and sauces.

It's carbohydrates are the problem, like white bread, rice and pasta. They get converted into sugars in the blood much more quickly than actual sugar. For which reason, wholemeal is much healthier.

I eat sugary things all the time - chocolate and such :o - and my blood sugars never vary. Just eat them in moderation with a meal and spread it out over the day. IOW, don't binge on it!
