I don't mind if it's today or tomorrow - what it does mean is about 15mins of extra daylight a week and Spring just around the corner. :happydance:

Yep, solstice tomorrow. Which also happens to be pay day for me, and also day 1 of my christmas holiday leave.

That catches loads of people out, and thousands regularly turn up at Stonehenge a day early, but English Heritage normally let them in. Still a whole 4 months too early for Martians.

And it's Happy Summer Solstice for anybody in the Southern Hemisphere. If you stood astride the equator you could do both at once.

I'm afraid we still have the darkest mornings to come - the latest sunrises fall between Boxing Day and January 4th, before they gradually start creeping forward again.

Sunrise and Sunset for United Kingdom – England – London – January 2011

But, heyho, the overall shortest day will soon be over, and the afternoons are already drawing out!

There is that odd anomaly:scratch: Bit like the Planet doing a handbrake turn I suppose:D

Main thing is though, back down hill towards another growing season:dbgrtmb:

Oh, don't forget to keep the Solstice fire burning throughout the night, otherwise the Sun won't come back next year:thumbsup:

Yeah, no worries, I'll leave the Christmas tree lights on in the cave.

                              Happy Solstice everyone!
As someone who works outside all day, I'm always happy to see the passing of the winter solstice. :yess:

Slightly off topic....at our work Christmas 'do' a couple of nights ago, the subject of the approaching solstice came up in conversation.

My boss told me of a former acquaintance of his, a 'Sir' who was also a fellow of quite diminutive stature.

Apparently he was known to all in the company as '22/6', because he was said to be the shortest knight in the realm! :D
