I thought we could post odds and ends about Christmas here !

What prompted it was this ....

Earlier on i opened a box of Sultans Turkish Delight - mmmm, yum, i've always loved this
    But, what's happened to it ? ? ?
The flavour isn't the same - it seems sweeter and the texture's different too ..... and ..... where's the little wooden fork gone ? ? :(

Why can't manufacturers leave things be ?  :gaagh:

This year I bought a brand called Koska. It comes in some interesting flavours - I bought pistachio, hazelnut and coconut. Turkish Delight is very much a treat for me, since no one else here can stand the stuff. I haven't sampled it yet, but I'll give you my verdict.

The other thing I really love but which everyone else hates are marzipan chocolates. It's great. I get the whole box to myself.

I just bought some of those vacuum packed chestnuts, every year its a bit of a tradition to make chestnut stuffing, love the stuff:wub2: could eat that without the turkey:heehee: but peeling the chestnuts takes forever so thought this year I'd try the easy option, wish I'd tasted before I put them in too late now, just doesn't taste nice, bet I end up buying chestnuts and making more:DOH:, at least I still have time, maybe give the first lot to relatives on boxing day:mute:.

There's a Norwegian brand called Bergen that make marzipan bars covered in dark chocolate and they are to die for, i've only ever seen them in health shops but i bet you'd like it - see if you can track it down !

Asda, Sainsburys and Tesco all have them atm but brother - are they expensive!

I've always loved chestnuts but in these modern houses there's nowhere to roast them! I famously put some in my brand never before been used combi microwave but put them on a very high heat for too long and left them. When I opened the oven, not only did this wave of sooty smoke come out, there were a dozen little conker shaped cinders on the tray!

Luckily I bought the oven from Amazon who changed it, no questions asked and no return shipping imposed! Amazon rocks!

Anyway, back to the chestnuts - I've observed that lately they seem to be about 50% corrupted with maggots or rot. Last couple of years I have had to throw away almost half of the net which, at £2-3 a shot is no joke.

It further irks me when my friend in Spain tells me she can pick them herself and they are always bug free!

I'd better not find maggots in any i buy :help:
These are the things i have an absolute phobia of, i hate them - can't even watch the CSI episodes where they're crawling all over somebody. Ugh. Hate them :( :( :(

Last summer there were some in my dustbin - rang my other half whilst in a terrible state and he came straight home and 'dealt' with them. Ugh, they really do give me the eeebie jeebies :(

I've had some excellent chestnuts from a local greengrocer, you can't store them more than a few days before they start to dry out or turn rotten, but they never last that long in our house as I love them. I bought some cheap ones from Lidl a couple of weeks ago and they were nearly all rotten.

I use a chestnut pan on my gas hob Daisees :dbgrtmb:
Takes about 10 minutes to roast them, and they are just as nice as done on an open fire - Yum!

I can't remember if I got it from Lakeland or not. They are on amazon for just over £10 delivered.

I believe the Turkish delight is not the same as Gelatine is now banned after the CJD Carry on, the same with Jelly, jelly babies etc or anything with geleatine a requirement
The chemical subsitute is just not jelly like, more crystal sugary crunchy
