Do you mean that chestnut pan I posted? Sorry it won't work on an electric hob, the big holes are to let gas flames through and toast the chestnuts. You'll have to get a camping gas stove Daisees!

I used to do them in the microwave before I bought the pan, but boy what a mess they make inside when they explode if you get the timing wrong :help:

I didn't know gelatine was banned! That's good news for my daughter, she is allergic to it. Do you know what the substitute is please and what are they going to use on capsule type pills then, my daughter couldn't take those either.

Bought some this morning, Simbad ...... they're tasteless aren't they :(
They're £1.99 for about 8oz, bought 2 packs but i'll not be using them - their texture isn't right and they've a glazed-type of coating. Not nice at all.
Can someone send me some real ones please :WINK1:

Just had a thought, maybe the birds will eat them !

Being mainly vegie, apart from fish, I check to see whats in stuff. Did notice they now state pork gelatine in jelly packets. Presume it was beef before.

No they're horrible aren't they Louise, know what I'll be doing later peeling chestnuts :thud:.
Spruce think they should split the Roses and Quality Street into soft and hard centres:yess: hate the caramel but love the orange and strawberries, or else find someone who likes the hard centres to swap with :heehee:

My son insists on having a huge tin of Quality Street every Christmas. The toffee ones always get left - he doesn't like them I and worry about dental work :heehee:. His favourites are the orange creams. This year I managed to choose a tin which didn't contain a single one. We've got twice as many toffees to compensate.

Thats my reason too Clara:heehee: just been to the dentist this week with a broken tooth, only eating a sandwiche might have been worth it if it'd been something really good like chocolate, only put a tiny white filling on took all of 5 mins cost me £75:thud:, since my dentist went private think he just plucks a price out of thin air I have nightmares about going.

        Oh dear !

Those orange, and strawberry (and coffee) creams are just awful, they're so sweet and sickly that they set my teeth on edge - i have to give them away .... and guess what ..... someone gave me a box of choccies that are all strawberry creams !!!!! :mute: :mute:
Someone will take them off my hands, i'm sure :WINK1:

Has anyone notice there are no nice crusty rolls and baguettes any more? Time was - not so long ago - that Sainsbury's did a skinny half baguette that was so crusty you could lacerate the roof of your mouth on it! No longer - I asked in Asda once and was told people don't like them, they prefer to take ordinary rolls (whatever they are!) and finish them off in the oven. I tried that and all I got was hot soft rolls!

I want rolls with a hard crust - the kind you get with a ploughman's lunch. [IMG]

I can't stand the sickly orange and strawberry fillings either. But my son loves them, along with all sorts of other hideous junk. Most of the time I do my best to limit the amount of rubbish stuff but at Christmas I let go a bit. Son doesn't have a single filling, whereas I have lots. I think it might have something to do with the fact that grown ups force fed us with cream soda, seaside sticks of rock, spangles and toffee eclairs when we were little.

Poor you, Simbad. I sympathise. I've been putting off going back to the dentist because I dread what he might find and how much it might cost. OH bores anyone who will listen with the fact that he decided all dentists were charlatans at the age of fourteen, hasn't been back since and has perfect teeth. At least, he did until last Saturday, when he woke up with raging toothache. Finding a dentist at this time of year was difficult, but eventually he succeeded. By the time he'd seen the hygienist, had the x-ray and the filling, he was £250.00 poorer. Unfortunately the dentist doesn't seem to have done the trick. He's still in a lot of pain and the surgery staff are starting to bunk off for the holiday. Last Christmas OH got swine flu. This year it's his tooth. I just can't wait to see what Xmas 2012 will bring ....

I'm afraid I don't like those extra-crusty baguettes either, Daisees. They're just too much like hard work to eat and the crumbs go everywhere.

Everything is smaller now, I can remember the time when wagon wheels were actually taken off wagons and coated in chocolate:
