Is there a multi-save on Wilkos seed potatoes, like there was last year when they were 2 packs for £5?

If not it won't just be a small (10%) increase, but a whopping great 26% increase on last year.

Hi Scrungee, don't think there was; least not at our store anyway.....however they are 2.5kg nets where as I think they were just 2kg last year, not certain though :D

I know there were offers on them as the gardening season progressed and they needed to clear stock, onion sets and smaller packets of seed potatoes ended up with 75% off and that wasn't that late either, it was still in plenty of time to plant them and get a decent harvest :thumb:

In our store the nets of seed potatoes always sell out quite quickly and then they stock up again, but not always with all varieites, just depends what's available to them I guess..

If they're only 2.5kg and no multisave, then they're 57% more expensive than this time last year. From my post on another thread on 8th March 2011:

My recollection is that they came straight in on the multisave, so worked out at £2.50 for 3kg, then dropped to £2.38 for 3kg when the offer changed to 20% off.

EDIT: I've been to Wilkos today and they are 2.5kg (smaller than last year) and they also cost more per bag than last year, plus there's no multi-save. So instead of rucksacking seed spuds from Wilkos back to the car, this year I'll be getting them @ £21.60 for 25kg from my favourite garden centre, so £2.16 per 2.5kg, rather than £3.28 from Wilkos (plus 'free' hessian sacks). But I might wait a while just in case Wilkos introduce some multisave/reduction.

Whislt I was in Wilkos I counted 40 as the approximate number of potatoes in their £3.28 2.5kg bags (as the number per kg can affect my choice of supplier - it's not a saving if they are 25% cheaper but great big seed spuds twice the size), so about 8p each.

B&M Bargains now have their packets of Seed Potato, Onion Sets, Garlic, Rhubarb, Asparagus etc in, resonably priced too, I picked up a packet of 100 Red Baron onion sets for just over £1.50.....:D

I was in B&M Bargains at Milton Keynes on Tuesday (on a garden centre 'road trip' and it was just up the road from Dobbies) but didn't see anything, must have been just too early. 100 setts for £1.50 seems like a very good price. I'm passing that way again on Saturday so will have another look.

Just a quick question on onion sets . I am going down town this morning , Wilkos and B and M are opposite each other so I may as well get my onion sets today. Will the sets always be heat treated ? :scratch:I was going to get Sturon as it seems to get very good reviews on here.

        TIA

I called into B&M Bargains at MK/Bletchley today and found a display stand near the entrance/exit with spuds, setts, etc. in and checked out the quality of the Sturon & Stuttgarter onion setts.

I saw mould growing on setts in the first four packets I looked at, so wont be buying anything from B&M and suggest anybody considering doing so carefully examines them first.

Good advice Scrungee, I always check all pre-packed sets, bulbs or anything I look at, the ones in our store looked quite clean and healthy for the time being, no signs of mould on anything I looked at...

Its always best to ignore the most obvious packs (usually at the front, close to eye level) as they are the ones that the shop managers hope will just go.

Always root around toward the back of the display.

When setting out the stock, the best stuff is usually not the first stuff you see, because the goal is to sell the stuff that should be in the bin. If that moves fast enough, then the good stuff (behind the rotten stuff) can get shifted in its own sweet time.

If the managers had got their staff to empty out the tightly packed boxes, carefully examine the contents, grade the bags, and carefully re-pack them them in perfect layers it must have taken them a very long time indeed, and wasted loads of time because the staff had obviously got it wrong because the quality got worse the further I went in.

Went to Wilkos today and looking at their onios setts found mould on most of them, some packs with about 25% affected so went to Poundland and discovered their setts were all starting to sprout and got the only pack in the shop without any with shoots. Thank goodness I've got seeds in.
