I finally found some OK onions setts - at Morrisons would you believe, 40 for £1 and weighing 300g so they're a cracking size + really good quality - I always seem to get much better return pro-rata from larger setts. Bought Sturon & Red Baron.

Only 47 setts in the bag of Stuttgarter I bought from Poundland which only weighed 280g and it was identical to all the others in the store (except for not having sprouting setts in it).

Yup, I grabbed some of Morrison's onion sets too. Just the right size and price!

I've been to Leicester's Mecca of gardening today, Hawgrip's of Enderby, 5 mins from J21. For £25 I bought:

    6 free range eggs
35 gladioli corms inc 10 named
    10 ranunculus, named
    20 anemone coronaria, named
    6 named dahlia tubers
12 oriental lily bulbs, inc 2 named ones
    2 garlic heads for planting
    1kg Maris Peer

Not a bad haul. There was loads of choice of all these things, as well.

Well to be honest mine were silver skin onion size, and only 97, in the 300Grm bag, none were sprouting or mouldy though more than by good luck and fortune as I did not know what to look for until I read your later post

As an aside, Having the planks the time and effort but not the earth to fill new, raised beds
I was taken by your Homebase JO Potato compost for a pound 50ltrs

I lay awake all night, and first thing dashed to fulfill my dreams
I got there at 09:20 and some Scrungee git had bought all 47 bags at 09:00

They are now available on GUMTREE AT £2.50 as is all the wind blow trees
only £45 per ton logs :cry3:

    So back to plan B
No raised beds then next year raised at 1' and following year by another foot

Wilkos have now reduced nearly all their seed spuds down from £3.28 to £2.62. The only exceptions are Rocket and Maris Piper which remain at the original price.

As the bags are 2.5kg, that gets the price of the cheaper ones down from £1.31 to £1.05/kg.

Home Bargains, here have just re stocked onion sets, one red and two others, plus some more varieties of seed potatoes including main crop now, still eight to a bag for a £1
They also have 4m x1.5m of reed rolls, at £6, Not everyones choice I know, but my daughters back garden wall about 12' high is made of grey breeze block, as the house and garden are new, I thought the reeds along it would relive the eyes abit until I get something growing up or down it
I have some large bushes in for her, and a couple of Virginia creepers, along with varigated ivy, other nice climbers etc, but they will all take time, so found this a cheap cover for a while 20metres so willow was too expensive

While passing our local Wilko's today they had some clematis and Honeysuckles on open display for £2.49p each..............so I bought two Clematis and one Honeysuckle for plants against my Arbour, but I still need some white flowering Clematis!:D
