    Aw Val,

Its the anticlimax, combined with the lack of light. The midwinter celebrations have evolved to give us something to look forward to in the depths of the dark.

Its a long way to May Day now & theres not much inbetween to look forward to.

I used to look forward to the Stupid Pigeons starting up on Valentines Day, but because of the warm weather, one went off above the caravan this morning. They think its spring already.

Hi Val, I think Ziggy is right. My friend uses a light box to try to combat the dreaded SAD but I always feel that when we are supposed to feel good ie at Christmas or the start of a new year it makes us question things.:cry3:

If it's of any help I was told to "go with the flow of things" and try to accept today may not be good but tomorrow things may seem totally different. Roll on the Spring - I am much happier when I can get out and back to nature. :sunny:

there have been many people reporting similar over the past 2 days on conspiracy sites (it has nothing to do with alcohol consumtion) ....

The sun has been very active the past 2 days (CME), and many say this is what has made many people feel 'down'

I'm not feeling down as such, but very, very tired. A bit dehydrated too, which I'm working on solving with copious cups of tea.

To tackle the tiredness, I shall very shortly head out for a brisk walk.

I suspect lots of people are feeling a bit down at the moment. The weather has been unusually depressing lately, with lots of grey skies, drizzly rain, and strong wind. Add to that the christmas chaos, and the very short days, all adds to the winter blues.

But christmas is out of the way now for a while. The days are getting longer again. Soon we will be starting to notice that faint, indescribable smell of spring time.

I've been spending the past few hrs researching compost tea .... and will be trying this recipe:

                Ultimate Compost Tea Recipe

(for a 5 gallon bucket ... use rainwater or spring water)

                - 1/4 cup bacterial-dominated compost (usually worm/vermicastings)
                - 1/4 cup fungal-dominated compost (normal garden compost)
                - 1/4 cup garden soil
                - 1/4 cup forest soil
                - 1.5 ounce of soluble unsulphured black-strap molasses
                - 1 ounce maple syrup
                - 1 ounce of soluble kelp
                - 1 ounce humic acids
                - 1 ounce fish hydrolysate
                - 3 tablespoons rock dust
                - 1 heaped tablespoon of Mycorrhizal fungi (rootgrow can be used) ... the fungi is added to the brew just before watering the plants and not during the process of making the compost tea

add your fishtank pump and let it brew for 48 hours (stirring occasionally) ...

then it can be used directly around the plants

or can be sprayed/foiliar feeding (after filtering with a filter of 400 micrometers ) in a hand sprayer ... the left over compost (after straining) can be used as a mulch around plants

has to be used as soon as possible (i.e it cannot be stored for a long time)
                ------

I have seen another similar recipe, but they use a lot more compost (1/3 of the bucket)??

Hugs Val. Zigs got it right. I start to feel better as the days get longer. Buy yourself some nice bright flowers and thumb through some gardening catalogs to plan for the coming spring.

Gemini, as others have already said, the short days and gloomy weather probably isn't helping.

The good news is the forecast for tomorrow is for bright sunshine and blue skies all day. :sunny:
It's looking good later in the week too, Wednesday and Thursday should be sunny too according to the forecasters.

Another thing which I've found can help to combat the winter blues; do a search for 'Bio-light bulbs' and maybe give them a try.
We've got several around the house, they imitate full spectrum natural sunlight and they really do seem to make a difference. :dbgrtmb:

Val my mum always gets like that too this time of year then she perks up in summer providing the weather is right and the wind is blowing in the right direction. She just eats her way through try lots of chocolate :D
