    Forthcoming meteor showers

    For the next few nights, if the skies are as clear as last night, should be worth a look.

    Other stuff going on, Venus is visible towards the South West from sunset to mid evening. Possible to see a phase of Venus with Binoculars.

    Jupiter is very bright in the East, worth a look at with a decent pair of binoculars, should see 3 to 4 of the Galillean Moons.

    If you've got a telescope, have a look at the Horse Head Nebular in Orion's Sword, in the South.:)

      Just seen 3 of Jupiters Moons, its a bit close to our Moon at the moment, which is beeding into the binoculars, will have another look when its moved round a bit.

      Can't make out any phase of Venus, new binoculars not as good as I hoped they would be.

      Saw a spectaclier slow moving & twisting rock fall out of the sky, coming from the North, heading South, straight over head.

      Best shower i've seen so far, so slow moving, red and orange, just saw one break up as it came down.:dbgrtmb: going from East to West this time, but still from directly overhead.

      Yep, you'd need to go up the hill a bit, looking pretty much north.

      Only going out for a few mins at a time to see em, clouded over here now though.

                  We saw a shooting star when we were out walking last night.It zoomed across the sky at the point of the handle of the saucepan {Great Bear}

                  We have also been impressed with seeing Venus close to earth and also Jupiter has been looking good each night,not to mention the full moon which has been fantastic as well:D

                  That sounds like its still part of the quantrid shower Kandy, i'm still seeing them too, still quite slow moving compared to say the Leonids.

                  Have you put the Binoculars on Jupiter yet, should be able to see the moons now our moon is out of the way.

                    Hi Zigs the one we saw last night had a dark tail on it so we were able to track it so to speak for a few seconds before it petered out.We seem to go through a phase where we don't see any and then seem to see quiet a few.In the past I have stood upstairs in one of our bedrooms with the lights off and the door closed and seen quiet a few when they have been at their peak but can't remember which time of the year that was.:D

                    Years ago where we used to live Mr Kandy set up our ornithological telescope and we saw rings of Saturn and the moons of Jupiter but havn't done that for ages.I think I am getting a bit long in the tooth now to stand outside on a winters evening star and planet watching but might give it a go tonight just for memory's sake:D

                    One of my friends in our village brought her hubby a few years ago a proper largish telescope for watching planets and stars but he soon lost interest so it stands in the corner covered in cobwebs and dust:(I've debated whether to ask if they want to sell it but they got it from a German site{ebay}and we wouldn't want to pay more than what they paid for it four years ago as I don't know the price it went for then.:D
