I would choose Brecon over Hay on Wye every time for 'upping sticks'. I've visited Hay on Wye for many, many years and found it devoid of any of the facilities I'd be wanting in my retirement - got all the books I need.

Best of luck with the move Val - it's good to be near family, far too many of us move away from families for work/other reasons but as we age I feel the warmth of the family around you is a valuable asset......'watch out for the sheep down there'

Be very careful in what you wish and what you intend to do

My two daughters /husbands and family, all lived within half an hours walk each way from our house, for years, everything was Wonderful,

My wife and I came into a large amount of money, we already own our own small home and garden, and although having to work still have enough of our own, for good holidays maybe twice a year
A good idea was to free our children from the burden of mortgages and what they earned was theirs to spend and live on

So we gave them equal shares of the inheritance, ie cleared their mortgages with a little left (you can not take it with you and they would get it when we snuffed it anyway so why wait when they can be happy now)

They, sold up and moved to lovely properties forty miles away :cry3:
They now live in an up market area,
and I am the ragged old man, in non designer clothes that turns up with garden gear in an "OMG A SKODA" Curtains twitch :loll:I think they pass me ORFT as their Man that does

Dire isn't it:( Spent the night in a b&b there, having driven up from Somerset to go to court to get reposession of my house. So not in the best of moods.

Local shop only had cheap lager & cider, no telly, radio, long before wi fi. spent the evening sitting on a wooden chair trying to get drunk on something mildly stronger than shandy, listening to the pylons on the national grid crackling in the dreary Welsh fog:cry3:

It was a lovely thing to do, though, Jack. Your kids are lucky.

After being made to feel like the evil sais landlord evicting a poor defensless welsh girl, yes.

The mere fact that she'd not paid the rent in a year and a half, not taken the rubbish out for the same period & burnt all the furniture didn't enter into it.

                Cost me £50,000.

Courts never like landlords because there's so many scallies out there and they tar everyone with the same brush. End result good and bad then, but at least you've got it back Ziggy! :)

Val, you have to do what you want to do and what your heart tells you to do ... even be it going somewhere you don't know. It would not be a first time this has happened ...

I know a little about your background and wish you nothing but happiness in 2012 whatever you decide to do ... but please do it for you. xx

PS And I would ignore that neighbour ... and as I was born in South Wales I don't think it's that's bad although I have chosen to live elsewhere ... :heehee:
