    Hi guys,
As some of you know already I have got 4 new hens :D they have settled in really well and are starting to get quite active around the garden. One of them has started laying I have had 2 eggs from her now but they are a little on the small side, is this because they have only just started laying and will the eggs get bigger?? The chickens are warrens they are about 22 weeks old now.

Also is it true a freshly layed egg will never boil?? :what:

    Thanks :D

Good news on the egg front. They do vary in size and shape.

Luck you to have hens. I would love to have the room for them although we have so many foxes and badgers around here I would be worried about them.

I do worry about that too, but they have not had there wings clipped so I like to think if a fox did try anything they would fly to safety maybe perch on the privets. My mate said also if you have the odd wee around your garden (at night haha) that will keep them away too because of the scent but It's too cold for that atm :D

That made me laugh Ziggy! :D :dbgrtmb:

Don't listen to old stuff & nonsense, but good, sound, technical advice, like like the colour of a hen's egg will be the same as their ear lobes.

Don't forget to give them some greenstuff, even if it's only a few leaves from 39p Aldi 'Super 6' cabbages as they will love you for it, their eggs will taste better and they (the eggs) will be a better colour. Or give them some grass clippings.

scientists and doctors say you should not eat more than 2 eggs a week as it is very bad for your cholestrol ... all those hens that lay 7 eggs a week?

selling eggs at your local carboot sale?

Dunno where you get that info from, but I eat between 7 and 10 eggs a week (plus lots of cheese because I don't eat meat) and this is my doctor's interpretation of my last cholesterol test:

add 7-10 eggs a week to some greasy burgers, 100 cigarettes and 28 pints a week ... then add to that a bossy nagging wife, and a low salary.... with very little excercise and you will be ill when you reach 55

not joking .... most of my mates have done very well in business, and have over indulged in the finer things in life .... I had not seen them for several years, and we had a meet up in London 2 years ago ....

most of them have aged considerably, going bald, puffy cheeks, beer bellies and don't look well ... all my mates are the same age as me 50-51

they don't do excercise and sit behind a desk all day stressing

I do all the above, but do gym 5 times a week (cardio ... i.e. running/rowing/cycling and stepping machine, plus do the circuits)

very important and makes a huge difference

eat whatever you want, but burn it off and sweat out the toxins
