I'm just curious, is anyone still on a dial up connection these days? With so many ultra fast connections in the cities is there anywhere in the UK that still does not have a Broadband service?

    Steve...:)

The village where my brother & sister-in-law live still doesn't have broadband.

It fails where I live quite often, so I also have one of these mobile broadband routers as a backup (also handy whilst on hols):

I saw something about poor reception in some rural areas on BBC Breakfast this morning, where somebody living outside Newquay on the 4G LTE trial had their dongle hanging from their curtain rail which is exactly what I have a long USB extension lead for, and where I often hang mine if need be.

Dial up used to play a groovy tune for you whilst it connected don't see why broadband can't do that too

I use a T-Mobile broadband dongle on my laptop when I work during the day (away from home), or show a client a garden landscape design ...

£15 per month, but there is a download limit .... if you exceed the limit, you can still browse etc, but youtube etc struggles during peak time

we have broadband at home, but I can also tap into the neighbours broadband as my laptop has centrino (whatever that means), and the neighbour has not encrypted/locked his broadband

We do not have line based Broadband here. Nor can we have Dongle based either. This is a dead spot for most Mobile phone connections. Having said that BT actually made Dialup impossibly expensive last year by removing the ISP's ability to provide a free phone line.
We use a Satellite for our Broadband connection, a bit expensive but better than waiting for BT to put the 60 meg Fibre line into the Village as they promised for December. That would still be reduced considerably by the time it reached us at 5 km from the nearest box.

I'll try and find the link, but I was reading yesterday that the 32 billion pound cost of providing a high speed rail link between London & Birmingham (HS2 - with no stations in between) was the same as providing every single household & business premises with high speed internet access.
