sell up and move to south africa (but not near the big cities)

pound is strong and you will be zillionaire there ... a good mansion can be bought for approx £100k and if you have some pounds, you will live like a king

here is one right near the beach for £107 000 .... 4 beds in a brand new complex (no transfer fees etc and in a security complex)

they now build new complexes (8-12 units), with electric fence, guard at the gate, central communal pool/BBq area, landscaped maintained gardens etc

you buy a unit, then nominate one of the members as chairman .... you pay a monthly levee which covers the running and maintenance of the complex

that one is ok as it's close to the beach in a good area

many elderly UK people are selling up, and retiring in south africa .... if you have spare pounds, the interest rates in south african banks are very high, so you get good interest (9-11%)

I came to seek fame and fortune

long story though, but in a nutshell, I was browsing the internet during a lunchbreak in south africa, spotted a job in Cambridge that looked very good .... sent my cv .... received a call that evening .... 3 days later, they flew me business class to cambridge for an interview and paid all expenses including hotel accomodation (I told my boss and all my mates that I was going on a free weeks holiday to cambridge for an interview) ... got the job and they told me to stay and start straight away

they paid £5200 additional to relocate my family 3 months later .... all went well for 2 1/2 years ... I was doing CAD training all over europe ... was seldom home (spent up to 3 weeks a month away from home) .... wife got cheesed off as she and the kids never saw me .... so I resigned and went contracting .... bad idea, as work was scarce so that went pear shaped ... found contracts, but travelled far ... contracts lasted 3-4 months, then took 2 months to find the next contract

so, I never really planned to relocate to the UK, but am here now and try to make the most of what I have

I still have property in South Africa, and my eldest son has gone back there as he is a mechanical engineer (same as me), and there is not much work in this field in the UK

My other 2 teenagers are still at college here in the UK .... when they have completed their studies, I will decide what's best for all of us ... I'm getting old now, and need to settle

I also have a small farm in Lesbos greece which I inherited from my father and share with my 2 brothers ... (5 acres ... I call it a smallholding, but there it is known as a farm) ...

so i have a few options on the cards .... we could sell the farm and move to south africa and retire .... or I could sell the house in South Africa and retire in Greece and run a B&B at the farm .... it is by the seaside in a very good tourist village

at the moment, workise is looking better (I run 2 businesses side by side ....gardening/landscaping and a commercial/domestic cleaning company) ....and things look good for this year as there have been some big developments of late ...I'm still learning about gardening, but am learning fast and people like my ideas ... I need to go on a few courses this year, and I am in the process of hiring staff to assist with the gardening/landscaping side, .... and the cleaning business is expanding nicely

so time will tell .... If I make lots of cash here, I may stay ... if not, I will move elsewhere .... I believe in fate, believe that everything in life happens for a reason,and just 'go with the flow' ....

It's been good here ... kids have got very good educations, it is safe here, and people are nice ... just a pity that I have struggled financially ...

I have never been afraid to move or try new things .... In South Africa, I moved home 7 times (used to buy property, renovate it, sell for a profit then buy better)
