I have a 32" LCD HD ready, 1080p tv, a Bush which is much to my liking. I also have Sky but my Sky box is very old - not HD or +. I've had Sky for nigh on 11 years now. Used to subscribe to the Movie Channels but when I realised I watched about one movie a fortnight, I decided it was cheaper to go to the cinema and opted out of that.

What really gets my rag is these stalls in the shopping centre that offer all sorts of perks to new customers and to old ones if they will sign up to Sports and Movies. They even phone me and tell me they have this extraordinarily excellent package for me with a free Sky+ box, insurance and HD channels ............. provided I sign up to Sports and Movie channels!

When will they get it into their thick heads that they ought to offer a reward (i.e., a discounted contract) for people who've been customers for years and merely want to sigh up to HD. ATM it's ridiculously expensive to do that on it's own.

If only .................. If only .........................

I know nowt about subscription 'packages' etc., except that, a friend of mine has 'Sky' and (when they first had it) you could choose from 3 levels of subscription which meant that the more you paid the more channels you had access to. Trouble was the men wanted the sports channels, she wanted the food/living type channels whilst the children wanted something else, all of which meant you really had to opt for the 'full' package just to get everything you all wanted. Of course, that may all have changed now.

The only other thing I know is, that whilst my TV - which came with 'Freeview' - gives me loads of (largely useless) channels, my daughter who receives her digital signal through Freesat also gets loads of channels - but we don't necessarily get the same channels - which means I might end up recording ITV3 for her, whilst she might record something on the Food Netwrork for me.

Well as far as I'm aware Fidgetsmum the only channels which you can recieve but your daughter can't are these ones:

although the reverse is a bit different mind, but you can get the foodnetwork on freeview as well it's channel 49 apparently :dbgrtmb:

it's a shame Dave is only on Freeview and not Freesat but I'm led to believe thats because Dave is a subscription only channel on Sky:scratch:

This is a fantastic website by the way it lest you compare all the different services and gives you little tid bits of recent updates and news:

What's beginning to annoy me is the 'Also available in HD' which accompanies the introduction to many programmes - about as useful as when (back in the day) they'd tell you 'this programme is in colour' - those who had a colour set knew, to those who didn't, it made no difference anyway.

Now, unless you have both a 'normal' and an 'HD' set side by side, or are particularly discerning, I defy most people to be able to tell which they are watching and anyway - Mr. F'smum and I agree, for us, 'watching in HD' means putting your specs on :loll:

Ah, but Daisees mentions in her post that she already has Sky:WINK1: in which case it's as simple as just swapping the boxes:thumbsup:

otherwise yes you would to get a satelite dish installed:)

Well, sadly I am really hooked on Sky Atlantic - love their series including "Game of Thrones" and "The Borgias". Best drama since Downton Abbey!
