    Hi there.

A bit of a worry. I notice there's no mention of the symptoms?

I'm tending to think this is the future for many normally grown plants, especially those grown in large quantities for summer bedding.

They control the pest/disease in the nursery, but once sold, the gardener has no defence, due to the withdrawing of most garden chemicals.

Primarily a West Coast problem, the fuchsia gall mite, Aculops fuchsiae, is very small and difficult to see without a microscope. The mite introduced itself from Brazil to California is the 1980s. It spends most of it's life inside fuchsias and does not affect other plants. It causes the leaves and stems of the fuchsia to distort and thicken. The best remedy is removal of the plant and replacement with a new mite resistant variety.

I don`t have any fuchsia myself , but i wish I knew about the canna virus before buying some infected plants and lost all my good one.
so the best to do is not buying any for a while or grow them from seeds.

True, but worrying that reported incidents were up last year despite the winter that we had.
Could be down to increased awareness though........

Blimey, this really is NOT good news and is a REAL threat.( Check my post in the pest and disease section titled Fasciation on Fuchsias).
When I wrote that post I was hoping it was a one off and all would be back to normal in 2012. I had not seen it before but last Autumn it went bananas and was rife in the south west. :(

At the moment we in the Midlands seem to be free of it.

Being selfish I hope we stay that way,but with the big sheds selling in bulk these things will spread very quickly IMO.:wallbang:
