Hi all Please use the poll above You know I have mentioned the garden centre is closing by me well last day tommorow and I have had bargains galore My dilema is, a person who I work with was after some ferns for the garden and the mail order nursey has sold out so knowing this I bought 12 which came to £83.00 ish but I had them for £1.00 each YES £1.00 2lt pots as well so a realy good size I have over the past year given her lots of free plants knowing they would go to a good home and be looked after. Sooooo do I sell the plants to her for £1.00 :gaagh:or do I make a small profit and charge more as on the pot the price is shown as £6.49 or upwards taking in to acount my petrol money and taking them into work as well . What would you do And I will take on borad what the outcome will be Spruce
I've voted "Charge more than £1", but I would be open and honest with your colleague at work and decide a price between the two of you...maybe meet in the middle of the two prices reasoning it will buy you more pots and compost to give away free plants to all your friends and family, the remainder covers your petrol. You'll find your colleague will readily agree to this. Or...sell the ferns on an auction site if you want to make a few more pennies. Steve...
I don't think you should be worried about charging more than they cost you. Any one would be happy to have those plants for half price. That way they will gain a lot and so will you :yess:. That seems to be fair all round. You obviously have a conscience about charging more as you got them so cheaply but you would cause more of a dilemma by making them obligated to you for letting them have something so cheap and not making something for themselves. If you didn't charge extra, and they are a person of good conscience, they would certainly want to give you more and then they would be in a quandary on how much to give you. If they're not a person of good conscience then they don't deserve to get them cheaply. I'd be inclined to just say "I've got this bunch of plants cheaply. Do you want them for £35?" They'll be happy and there won't be any awkward moments about 'how much'.
I would say 2.50 each would be a good and FAIR price. I would gladly pay that considering you fetched them and are basically delivering them.
I meant to press charge a quid! You could find out a lot about your colleague with a clean conscience!
so Spruce is realy kind is wrong !!!! Looking intresting with what has been said already , some of the ferns are : Walkers fern Japanese Rosy buckler fern The King linear male fern Crispa ??? So a good mix I want to keep them all :D maye be 2 or 3:yess: Spruce
Nah .... if they only cost a pound each, and there are only a few .... give them away for free .... good karma will ensure that whatever you have planted in your garden will thrive ..... maybe thats why I'm always so flipping poor
Nice find Spruce, what bargains! I'd ask for £1 each - one day she will return the favour to you one way or another (I'd drop some big hints about bring cakes into work in return)
I am always taking in plants I took a pamas grass in with plumes 5 ft in height l, Security's faces were a picture , I shouted " dont ask" Spruce
I would come to an agreement with her over the price, after all it was you that got them for her. If you make a good profit you could also suggest to her that you give some to charity, that would ease the blow and prick the conscience.
