New conservatory blooms

I have a couple of new blooms in the conservatory...........

Tradescantia pallida purpurea............


I bought this hybrid (Vuylstekeara?) orchid cheap out of bloom back in May, so it was a relief to get flowers from it that I did like!


Not sure if I've shown off this Cymbidium. Another one which was bought out of bloom (18 months ago), which bearing in mind the ridiculous cost of them makes it worth a punt on the colour - paid a fiver for it!

As you can see the colour is so much better in the summer!

 

Always nice to get a few flowers this time of the year.

I have one more of the unknown (bought cheap out of bloom) orchids yet to open, should be a couple of weeks before I know what it looks like. But pretty much all of my Phals are in rebloom mode - all I have to do now is work out how to get the Phalaeopsis type Dendrobiums to rebloom reliably, and intergenerics from the Oncidium alliance to rebloom reliably too..........

 

The Vuylstekeara is pretty much in full bloom now.

A nice collection, I see that Trad purpurea/Pallida is now offered as a patio/bedding plant, I think it would only look right in a Tropical display.

 

Sue and I both bought ourselves a T.pallida - mine was in a pot and hers in her rockery. Both outdoors in similar light etc, but my pot grown one grew and flowered much better.
As the foliage is quite a subdued (almost sombre on overcast days) colour, I thought that hers looked rather good in a traditional rockery.
As to hardiness (I have seen it described as hardy!), we'll see.............

My Dendrobium "Berry Oda" is in bloom!

This is the first keiki that I ever potted up and this is the first time that it has bloomed. It had a couple of flower spikes that blasted last year, but made up for it this time around with six!
It's still only in a 6cm pot, so I'll have to pot it on in the spring.

The blooms are small on Berry Oda, about 15mm at the widest point.

 

Bit of a stretch here, as they're actually blooming in the cool spare bedroom.
Anyway, the Phals are taking off.

A nice "dwarf" white one...............


This next one refused to bloom for two years, instead growing lots of very large leaves. Last year I stupidly snapped the flower spike trying to clip it up straight - no such mistakes this year!


Another dwarf one that is possibly my favourite Phal.
