I'm guessing this is some kind of ornamental Sedge.

Its taking over, so, having tried to dig it out (Take a week of wednesdays:DOH:) I've given that up as a bad idea.

New plan is to cut it all back, wait for new growth & then spray it off.

Will Glyphosate do the job or do you think it might need something stronger. Its in the flower bed so no food is being grown there.

Looks similar to a weeping sedge I was given by a neighbour to put on my compost heap (gets out of control and self seeds) but I left it standing on the ground for while and forgot about, and now it's some massive clump I must get around to dealing with.

I'm going to have a bonfire on top of it.

You may have to scrunch up the foliage Zigs to let the glyphosate get into it...the same as you have to do with Mares Tail.

      Steve...:)

Looks like Luzula ( woodrush ) to me. Damaging the leaves WILL NOT help it take up weedkiller. :dbgrtmb:

Googled that Dai, not that one, Carex Pendula fits the bill though.

Its taking over that corner of the Garden Kindred, can't get in there in the summer & can't eat it.

I've yet to encounter anything green that glyphosate wont kill. On some plants though it dribbles off, so you need a way to keep it on long enough for some to soak in. Trapping the target in a plastic pop bottle with the bottom cut out helps loads, as it keeps the wind and rain from washing it off.

        Cheers Dave,

I've got several plastic dustbins that would cover the clumps, will employ them:dbgrtmb:

I think light still needs to get through. I know the plant has to be active, not sure if it has to be photosynthesising though.

Might use polythene & gaffer tape instead then, at least the garden won't look like a game of Sentinel.

When treating plants with Glyphosate, you do not treat them until the chemical runs off the plant you just wet the foliage. Just had a look in my Garden Grasses, Rushes and Sedges book and will stick with Luzula. Have dug enough of them out.
