Last year I chopped a big Pampas Grass down to a few inches and chucked tree root killer on it, then covered it in a plastic bin for a week. It never grew back and eventually I managed to get it all up in sections cos it was such hard work.

It's tough stuff, this. Glyphosate will probably do the job if you're persistent though.

Like many "weeds" it actually looks good in the right place - a watery spot.

don't hate me Ziggy....but I think you COULD dig up all six clumps. It does have a thick mat of roots, but so long as you get your spade well in down the side right round, it's not deep at all. Sort of tears up as you lever down...quite satisfying really. I challenge you to try one clump at least....

Hi Zigs,We had one of these plants on the allotment and it had to go as it had got far too big so tried to burn it out with my weed flame thrower thingy which didn't work even though I had cut the top off of the plant to start with and in the end Mr Kandy had to use a matock and spade to cut through the base and then the matock to dig it out.We then had a nice burning session to get rid of all of it.It didn't half leave a big hole as it had spread to quiet a size.:D

If you look at the top right hand side of your photo you might like to gently move the hardy cyclamen corm {with leaves}that is growing there and also you look like you have a holly growing down the bottom right hand side in amongst the ivy and you also have a conifer growing amongst the grass leaves.:)

If I could access my photos I would put one up of Mr Kandy killing the beasty as it was quiet big and a lot of effort to get it out.:D

Buy a "Newcastle Drain Spade" from Wickes.

Unbreakable (and believe me I've tried.) It'll even chop concrete blocks in half! :)

That'll get your Carex Pendula out. :yess: (Well, you have to give it a little help by inserting it into the ground and leaning it backwards. :D )

Only got a shovel left now Julie, broke the spade & bent the fork,

If you could only dig what I do, maybe things could work,

For the plants that fill my Garden, used to fill your Heart,

But since the day my tools got broken, our flowers have grown apart.

Think the Cyclamen will be ok there now its getting more light.

The conifer was part of a load of hedge clippings that I couldn't get to with the Sedge there:dbgrtmb:
