I'll admit to believing that conspiracies happen. I just don't think every major event from history was a conspiracy, which is what some of the more hardcore theorists seem to believe.

I believe, for example, that our dependence on fossil fuel is, in this day and age, completely unnecessary. I find it impossible to believe that with all the scientific achievements of the last few decades, we can't simultaneously significantly reduce our fuel requirements, and change the sources of our fuel to something entirely sustainable. I do however find it very easy to believe that the decision makes in companies like Shell, Total and BP probably don't want to rock the boat so close to their retirement by ordering that X% of their profit gets reinvested into sustainable energy research, and given that tax revenues, pension funds and all manner of financial products are dependent on the prices of stocks and shares, neither governments nor banks would want to change the status quo.

There is one huge reason why the moon landings HAD to be genuine, the USSR. It was the height of the Cold War, America was upset (putting it mildly ) that Russia were the first to get a man into space so they had to go further. That is, land on the Moon. Had it been a hoax it would soon have been debunked by the Russians who were also tracking the project every step of the way.

 

You've all missed the basic truth.

There is no satellite Moon made of rock. It's all a conspiracy. It's actually just a big ball of cheese floating around up there. And the cheese manufacturers don't want us to know that, as it'll depress the market for cheese for a century or more!

Remember that you heard it on Gardeners' Corner first, that the Moon is really just a big lump of cheese. Whether it's Camembert or Caerphilly, I really don't know. We'll have to send an expedition to find out. :D

Sorry to digress ever so slightly, but you've just reminded me of something that happened a few years ago.

Remember all the media coverage about a probe being sent to the moon to deliberate crash land into it, thus sending up all the debris that could be remotely analyses for water? Well round about the same time, there was a partial lunar eclipse. The wife and I were driving along at the time, and saw the moon with a big chunk missing out of it. My wife is lovely, but slightly challenged in the intellect department. She asked why the moon looked wrong. I reminded her of the news article about the probe being sent to plough into it, smashing it up (I neglected to mention the lunar eclipse). She thought about this for a few seconds before her angry outburst of "why did they go and do that? I like the moon!".
