Are these certified bona fide "Green Tear" Snowdrops?, and what happens if it's not??. Or what happens if it fails to grow???
I honestly don't see the attraction of a "rare" bulb or plant. Is to have one, a kind of a raspberry to others who don't have one?? Is it any more beautiful than other plants???.................like I said. it reminds me of the Tulip Mania in the 17th Century when tulips were be swapped for 12 acres of land, or the equivalent of 10 times of a skilled craftsman wages for a year.:rolleyespink::WINK1::D The craze didn't last long and the price of them dropped liked a stone with some "investors" being ruined. I somehow suspect that the attraction and appeal is not the bulb or plant, but just the fact being able to own it when nobody else can:scratch:

Here's an extract from the Amateur Gardening Magazine regarding another rare Snowdrop bulb:

"Feeling down in the dumps in the middle of Winter? You're not alone. There's a Snowdrop in Scotland that's grumpy by name and appearance. When it blooms in February it has two "eyes" and a turned down "mouth" green markings on the petals.

But the fed-up flower gets a smile from visitors to the Cambo Country Estate in Fife where it is part of a National Collection. Although the rare bloom Galanthus Elweii "Grumpy" was found in a garden in Cambridgeshire 20 years ago, it remains highly sought after. "It is difficult to grow. Bulbs have been know to fetch as much as £100. It is popular with Gardeners but although we sell specialist bulbs on the estate it is only very occasionally that we have "Grumpy" for sale. People still send us money hoping to buy one" The Cambo Country Estate has 350 varieties of Snowdrops in 70 acres of wooodland. It's Snowdrop Festival [1 February to 13 March] features Snowdrops by Starlight when the woods are lit up." [/

I still wouldn't buy one single bulb for a £100:D

the eBay listings for "Green Tear" snowdrops?

Galanthus Green Tear (Rare Snowdrop) | eBay

currently at £275.78 for a single bulb, "Completed Listings" for that seller have closed at £360 on 23-Jan and £335 on 30-Jan, so the price is falling like-a-stone !!

            We running a sweepstake? :)

If so I think the more-money-than-sense my-Ferrari-is-faster-than-yours bloke paid £360 for the first auction, the guy that only has a large Porsche lost out on the first auction and won the second fro £335 (although the Ferrari bloke is obviously not a gardener, otherwise he would have decided he needed more than ONE bulb ... and would have outbid the Porsche bloke on the second auction too ...) , so in a couple of weeks we'll all be able to afford them and 2-fingers-up to the first chap (Dick Little) ...

Its just like the Tulip bulb South-Sea-And-Internet-Y2K-Bubble all over again ...

Although poor impoverished Hooray Heston is not bidding ... obviously ...

I'll stick to my very common single and double Snowdrops which are giving me more pleasure than any exorbitantly over priced bulb could. There's nothing wrong with the bulb on sale, just the idiots who are so easily manipulated as to think it worth it:heehee: I worked at a Global Advertising Company for a while and one of my friends there, a Creative Designer, quite cynically told me that some people could be sold a used broken match if you marketed it as being exclusive, rare, and desirable, it was just a question of using the right approach. I didn't really believe him at the time as I thought that in these modern times we'd got more intelligent, worldly and wary............................I was so wrong.:heehee::D
