    Magic Fruit

My friend gave this to me since I have lights for it and she does not.

It was growing well in the summer, but as the winter approaches it's dying.

It has brown veins and leafs. The stem is green on some sides of the stem, overall it looks like it's going to die

    I've been giving it 12/12 under a 400w MH with in-direct light.

I'm using a ziploc bag over it to help retain moisture, burping it every night.

I have a bag of 7-7-7 nutes that I'm not using but have it just incase.

Any ideas what needs to be done to revive this plant?
The winter is coming and temperatures are dropping. The MH is nowhere near a heat source and I don't know how else I can warm the soil up

I'm sorry but it looks dead to me.

Its not a plant I've grown or even heard of but during a google it appear to be a tropical from areas with a dry season.

So usually that means keeping the plant fairly warm but dry during our winter and letting the foliage drop if its deciduous.

It also appears to need a low ph so an ericaceous compost would be best.

This isn't a plant that goes dormant right? Once it dies it dies?

I'm just wondering where your initial post has gone????

As I say, I've never grown it, but as a general rule, if brown dead leaves stay attached, the plant is dead.
There are a few plants this doesn't apply to but it just not usual for dead leaves to stay attached to a living plant.

I'd keep it dry for a while before binning it.

What about copper beech? the dead leaves stay on that.

Don't bin till May, I say. You might be lucky.

Do you think I should put any of my 7-7-7 nutes in there? I've been watering with distilled water for a while now, but I have plenty of rainwater (snow that melted).

    What should I do?

Also confused on how this fourm works.. I've used other vbulletin forums but this one is strange.

Beech only keeps dead leaves if you clip it?

And I did say there are a few exceptions

Right, so did the plant get chilled before you got it?

The chilling would have been a 2h drive in a car, with the heater on.

[STRIKE]I'm going to check the temp of the area where the MH lamp is, give me a sec[/STRIKE]

No thermometer, going to guess 8-15*C

So it was nice and green when you got it and the leaves have turned brown since?
15 to 18c should be ok I would think.
