The company I work for have more or less made it mandatory that you have your payslips E mailed to you. I'm not sure what happens if you dont have a e mail address, but I suppose that is the modern way. If you want a proper copy, then print it yourself. Any way it comes as a pdf file with a password. I thought that once I had downloaded it I wouldn't need to keep entering the password, but I do. Anyone know of how to get round this, its a pain in the neck, I've got more passwords that that. I'm, not printing them because my printer is not working.
Theres a few ways round this, once you have the PDF file open: 1) depending on the version of Abobe you've got you may be able to select: Select Advanced > Security > Remove Security. OR 2) You can select File->Save as Text (but this would lose all formatting) OR 3) You press the three keys at the same time "Ctrl" "Alt" "Print Scrn" (this takes a snaphot of the PDF). Then open Word and paste the snapshot in - by pressing Ctrl-V. Then save the word document for future use.
you could install primo pdf and then just print it with that which will convert it to a pdf again and ave it for you:WINK1: there's aso websites which will remove the security for you however I wouldn't been keen on uploading a payslip:nono:
I take it that your pc usually saves and autoloads your passwords for you? There are sites and occasions where the password is actively prevented from being saved by your PC for security reasons. PayPal is one such site. It's probably a good idea not to have it saved. Maybe have a post-it on the wall near your computer with the password on it. That would be quite safe because hackers and viruses can't read post-its! :WINK1:
keep it in your journal near you at all times. Never leave it lying around just in case of burglary. experience tells you to change them every 30 days too
I presume you don't really want to print out the payslip but would like to keep a record of it. You could easily keep the info on a spreadsheet or in a table in Word - or pencil and paper will work :D. There's usually not a lot on a payslip that you want to keep. Just record anything of interest. The only thing you officially need to keep is a P60 (end of year summary) and they must give it in paper form if you ask. Don't let the b's get to you
Doesn't actually physically print it jack, it's just accessed from that menu it prints it to another pdf file
I take it your company has considered whether they are exposed to the risk of prosecution for breaches of the Data Protection Act 1990? Ok, the PDF is password protected. I don't know how strong that protection is (it might be very secure, I just don't know adobe's approach on that) but may password protected file formats are just meant to make it slightly inconvenient, and are not at all secure. Email is not a secure data transfer medium. Most companies wont send sensitive information of any kind over email. But apart from all that, I can't really add to the suggestions made so far.
If JWK's method doesn't work and you don't want to install further software why not try selecing print, and printing to a file by slecting Microsoft XPS Document Writer as your printer?
Right thanks, quite a few varying methods there, I'll work my way through them and see if I can get them working. I just find all this password thing a bit much. I even need one to talk to Virgin Media, British Gas etc. on the phone, its like its some kind of game they play.
You got that right, Pete. Much like the multi-layered automated menus we have to wade our way through, never quite sure we'll ever actually end up speaking to a real live person! "sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train"!
I had to call a company today,"can you just confirm your post code and adress?" Then, it went on, "and your phone number, E mail adress". If its not that its your DOB. Surely with todays technology they can work out where a phone call is coming from????????
