There we were enjoying a couple of Chelsea buns from our local bakery that cos £1.30 for the two.
"Do you know" she said "When I was lass, mum would send me down chippy for supper and for what it cost us for these buns I could get 26 portions of fish n chips.!! Thats twenty six"

    Now thats inflation...

    Morning all

I can't remember the price of fish and chips but I do remember buying my daily 4oz (113.4gms) bag of Sun-Pat hot salted peanuts - served fresh and hot from the machine - for 4d.

That would give me 78 bags for £1.30. :rolleyespink:

Our chippy used to charge 6p for a bag of chips when I was little. Then one day I remember being gutted because I only had 6p and the chips had gone up to a whopping 8p. Luckily the nice lady in the chippy said I could owe the 2p and gave me my chips anyway.

First pint of beer was 1/10d , Youngers IPA No3 . I thought it was horrible then ! Double Diamond and Watneys Red Barrel were big money at 2/6d i.e a gallon for a pound ! Several thousand pints later I am beginning to like it :D

Dont you think it strange that we can remember the price of a pint so easy after all those years.
What does that say about us?

Probably because 'a pint' was the first really grown-up thing we bought with our own money

I've got a copy of an advertisement from a company I used to work for (Elder Dempster) that offered return trips, including food and drink, Liverpool to Jamaica for £25.

The Bibby Line were also offering 13 day trips, Liverpool to Egypt return, First class, for £15.

Pretty good value for money :dbgrtmb:
