Or as my gran would say "Those who don't ask, don't get!"

Thanks for this - never heard of it before. But I joined and have already offered three items to members! One is a heavy 'cupboard' from Ikea - kind of canvas and rod thing bit like a tent! I got it years ago and have been at a loss to know what to do with it. It's still as new, in the carry case, never been taken out! How daft am I! But it just went against the grain to bin it.

While we're on it, could I just mention Freecycle etiquette.

If someone e mails you about an item, always reply, even if its been taken already.

If you say you want something, always go and get it. I've had loads of people say they'll have something and then not collect it, not even an e mail to say why not.

I got in touch with the mods about this, they say report any no shows as its 2 non colects and you are banned from the group.

Be very specific if you are offering, I was innundated with e mails when I offered some 32mm plumming waste pipes. There are loads of people that don't know 32mm is plastic, they all thought I was giving away valuable copper:DOH:

If i'm collecting an item, I usually take a few tomato or strawberry plants round as an exchange.

Well, the IKea storage item has already been picked up and another is being picked up tomorrow! Can't remember what the third item was! The young man who collected the Ikea thing was very nice and has already emailed me back that he's got it assembled and filled with his clothes already!

I've also offered my two spare Star Wars videos (ep 4,5,6) and a pair of B&Q fold-up director's chairs which I shall be delighted to be rid of!

I always find that if you offer something a lot of people just email you saying "can I plz?". I tend to give my items to people who tried to be polite and put a bit more effort into their responses.

I had a great thing happen today: someone emailed me for the folding chairs and when I got in touch with them, it turned out to be two old friends from a church I used to go to. We'd lost touch and never had one another's phone numbers so it was really delightful to get in touch again!

I saw someone asking for a car a few weeks ago. Who the hell would freecycle a car?

Ours has a policy that you have to make an offer before a want:-
so quite often you see offers made and then posted as gone in the space of seconds, people dont play fair to much me me sadly.
