thanks for the advice kristen, i inherited the veg patch which was designed by my towny boss's :D (they are nice people)
it looks pretty but so much space is wasted and i can't get my teeth in to a good production of veg.
i've worked on old victorian veg patchs where we grew fields of veg.
i'm lucky to have planted 10 potatoes in one section, moan, moan , moan :loll:
ok i've finished moaning and i do belive that we should be thankful for what we recieve. god knows i wouldn't afford a garden like i work in :dbgrtmb:

And 5 days later they've germinated and are showing through - the race to the first tomato of 2012 is on !

Not previously, but I've got some Black Krim and Black Prince for sowing this year.

If you make your own cider vinegar it can have residual alcohol. I taste test, then paper strip pH test and finally use a titration test, because giving it to our hens as a tonic before all the alcohol has been converted to acetic acid might cause serious disorder in the hen house.

I've just looked in the greenhouse and as I now have one poking through checked the http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/threads/gardeners-corner-village-produce-competition.39899/ but couldn't see an obvious class to show them in.

My Red Alert early bush toms are approx 150mm high and in 90 x 90mm pots (with stem/roots buried all the way down to the bottom).

Surprised mine haven't got a first truss on yet! Happy as Larry on my south facing windowsill, not a bit leggy and I really do have to pot them on at the weekend :(

I've got the first flower truss forming on the New Girl, no sign on the other varieties yet. These are under the grow lights still. They are all about 8" high with between 5 or 6 true leaves.

As an experiment I put a spare tomato plant in my unheated greenhouse a week ago, it's just frost free in there with a soil warming cable. The tomato seems happy even with temps just above freezing a couple of nights. A couple of tomato seeds have germinted in the same pot and have made a bit of growth which has really surprised me. Maybe I'll risk one of my more mature plants once the first truss sets.

It depends on how many plants you intend growing joolz, if there are enough with true leaves then do it now, the sooner you seperate them the better. The seedlings are quite tough and you can prick out tiny ones even if they just have seed leaves, don't handle them by their stems though :dbgrtmb:

Mine are full sized but not ripened yet, I'm not going to have tomatoes in May. Maybe first week in June, fingers crossed.
