Moon goes round the earth (takes it 4 weeks)

So for two weeks the Moon is on the side of the earth opposite to the Sun and you see the moon at night (starting as a small crescent, waxing to Full Moon, and then waning to a crescent again).

The other two weeks the moon is on the same side as the Sun. If it is close to the sun you can't see it - the sun is too bright (well ... if it is EXACTLY in line with the sun you get a total eclipse ...)

If the Moon is to one side of the Sun then it isn't washed out by the power of the sun's light, so you see it in the daytime sky - but generally the Sun is on one side of the sky and the Moon is on the other.

Hopefully I've got that about right ?
