As long as it is not cut until after the leaves have died down. Really they are woodland bulbs and do better in damper soil than is usually found under grass.

      Do they Capney?

I thought only daisies grew there:heehee:

I have never seen any exactly around graves, maybe in the lawned areas on approach.

Palustris is spot with his advice as usual:thumbsup::D If you're planting any bulbs into a lawn you will have to let the leaves die down first before you cut the lawn otherwise they won't have been able to gather energy and food to store for the next seasons flowering and growth.:D It is generally accepted that you'll have more success planting "in the green" rather than planting bulbs. I've just planted 300 Snowdrops in the green and 100 Blue Bells in the green around a tree.........now's the time!!!:D

A good memory would be a good thing
For forty years I have had a clump of snowdrops, totally out of place in the back lawn (meadow) Nice to see, and for years I have said I will, dig them up and put them in the front border

This year they did not appear:scratch:

When I built my new green house last April, I moved the shed
Yep the snowdrops are under the shed  I feel guilty, but there is no way I can move the shed to retrieve, Well I know there is as I did it last year, but do not feel up to it a year on guilty guilty

Just to be clear on one thing, modern RHS advice is to plant Snowdrops as freshly dug dormant bulbs (if available) as a first choice, then bulbs grown in pots and finally 'in the green'. Dried bulbs are almost always dead. To me the only way to get freshly dug dormant bulbs is to get them from a friend' s garden.

I planted some in my late husband' tub we had found on the allotment years ago. I saw white tips yesterday, today they are nodding heads in the breeze....delighted they have shown.

I think we may have one or two to spare. What you cannot get from these pictures is the wonderful scent of them.

That's a wonderful display, Palustris :dbgrtmb:

We used to have about 6,000 snowdrops where we built the summerhouse and dug up what we could and spread them around the garden. Most of them took quite well and some have spread and been split again. This year, so far, we haven't had much of a display but are hoping that they are just a bit late.

          Specially for SIXpence - :D
