They look like giant bean sprouts. I'm sure you'll be able to do something with them Ziggy. :)

Got a bit excited by the Subject !

"Says Feb on the packet John, I guess they need a long growing season?"

They do need a long season (and heat), but low-light (or in your case Ziggy NO light :heehee:) doesn't work either IME

We'll see what happens John, they will either thrive or fail.

What variety are they Zigs? Feb seems blinking early to me. (My Cantaloupe seed packet says April ...)

I have 5 (used, from previous seasons) seed packets and only Unwins says February, the earliest of any of the others is "Mid March" ...

I don't think there is enough light in Feb to bring them on, plus they are going to need heat too.

Perhaps I'll try a few to see if I get a significantly earlier crop. IME the start of female flowers that will actually set is dependent on the day length and weather, so I don't think they will be earlier (even if sown earlier), but maybe they will eb bigger plants and thus abel to "hold" more fruit.

RHS "Growing Fruit" says to sow mid_April for cold frame, and for greenhouse "Melons take 3 - 5 months from seed sowing, so seed sown in Feb should be ripe in June, March in July etc.". I've never had any before August - maybe that is why!
