    Silly question time.

Is it standard practice to have people short cutting across your plot ? :what:

    No.

Not on the allotments i've had in the past Kaz.

Difficult to deal with though, esp. if you are a sub tennant.

No they should not, it's ignorant and rude. Maybe when the plot was unused it's tolerable, but now you are getting it fettled I'd shout at them (politely!)

the Tenant wants it to stop too i know his plot was over grown and there for difficult to see if there was anything planted but where they cut across i have now found 3 out of his 4 gooseberry bushes flatened,

our paths currently run along side each other but their plot is a step higher they have paving slabs all the way to the edge of the earth and the soil is now dropping away on to our plot and their slabs are now wobbly so they tend to use our path mostly

they have started to look after a plot for a widow 3 plots down so they now cut across our plot and have moved some of the fence so they can get on to the next plot and then go around the back of that plot to get to their other plot,

does the main path have to stay where it is?

some of the other plots have fencing either side and the path goes up the middle Ray would like to change how the beds are layed out to make a clear line of this is NOT YOUR PLOT ! ideas on a post card lol

It sounds to me as if it is necessary to fence it off.

Pop down to the local equivalent of Mole Valley Farmers & get some of the stakes that hold an electric fence.

String it up all the way around and put the warning notices on it.

i think the neighbours are trying to suss me out Push over or not

thing is i am NOT but it is not my plot so being very polite ..........

but basically if i close back up the gap in the fence and in between us put a very long thin border with wire fence in it and grow some fruit canes all the way down, and re jig the beds and paths they would actually be able to officially complain ??
Heck i could even argue that i am helping them retain the soil in their path lol if i did this

I can't understand why other allotment holders would ever dream of walking across someone elses plot, they must be pretty gormless. I can sort of understand non-gardeners doing it, but not like-minded gardeners. To flatten gooseberries is not on and will they also trample across freshly dug soil?

Maybe you can mark out your plot with canes and string, just to emphaise the boundary and make it more difficult for them. It's a kind of polite way to start, rather than a barbed wire or electric fence!

Thats just bullying Kaz, you need to say there is money in fruit, and you owe me £5.99 for each fruit bush you've killed:mad:

You can do whatever you want within the confines of the plot.

Yes, change the path, as Ziggy says you can do what you want on your own plot.

How about digging a pit where their old cut through was, cover it with newspaper and a thin layer of soil so it's not obvious. See how many clever bugg@rs who think theres no money in fruit you can trap :heehee:

First thing to do is fence it off. Make sure it is nice and clear where the boundary is. A fence is as much a psychological boundary as it is a physical one.

                  Next thing...

... you need to push that thought out of your head altogether. It is your plot. You were invited to share it by the registered tenant, and the allotment committee know you're on it and accept that. You have as much right to be there as they do.

Once you've sorted those two things, it will be much easier to take the necessary stance, that the 'old boys' don't own the entire complex. Continue being polite, but at the same time, don't let them tell you what to do.

Cutting across? Playing ball games ect

                    Evening all,
Oh it's nice to have a forum like this with people who talk my kind of language, "gardening" (just had visitors for 3 hours talking about the worlds problems and how to sort them out:help:

Allotment rules and regulations are a bit like chalk & cheese,

I n some areas your not allowed to have chickens etc, Or in some cases you must grow veg!

your not allowed to have a greenhouse! and so the list can go on and on,

Now having said this one rule thats not always in ink, is the rule called respect.

                    Respect your allotment neighbours space,
ie do not help yourself to their produce or kit ie canes, use of water butt etc etc,

And as far as taking short cut across other peoples plots!!!!!!
like ive said respect, or to put it in a simple way, keep off keep out.

Some members of the allotment i was once a member of didnt want to say anymore than, "Hello, Good bye" and we excepted that and the friendship lasted for years on both sides.

So i feel if you have a member thats using your space for their own needs?
I'd start by putting a polite notice on your entance area or where you know they're getting through and if this didnt work! have a polite but firm word.

Not many people like the word "NO" but what should be a nice place for you to chill out is it sounds becoming a little on the stress side and to me this is the reason you go to the allotment, to relax "but" work and get away from stress.

                    Good luck!:)
