Another forum I frequent has a pair of fora. First one is for "Diaries", you make a post and then YOU add new chronological posts to that thread.

Second one is for discussion. You start a thread in that forum for discussion (about your thread in the first forum).

It seems to work well, I don't know if the software they use allows one-poster-per-thread setting on a forum, or whether the MODs just sort out any accidental posts.

Just chucking it in the mix as part of the discussion, dunno if it is useful per se.

The only issue I have with re-editing an old post (i.e. early on in a longer thread) is that it is not apparent that that post has been edited. You see the thread in the "recent activity list", click on it, and there are no new posts at the end ... (the post itself would have an "Re-Edited on date" but its like looking for a needle in a haystack in a long thread.

Maybe a simple Marketplace Forum is the best idea - post a thread of what you have available, edit it as items are "sold", people can reply to that thread or PM you with requests.

By golly - JWK has it sussed!
Cut and paste the last list to a new post, alter it as needs be, and the edit the old list to just the words " latest list at post # xyz".
Works for me, and point taken about photo size.

I like Kristen's idea of having two threads. One for the seed list themselves, and another for any discussion. I would prefer to see the seed list thread as fairly concise otherwise changes or additions could get lost.

And I also like LongK's suggestion that rather than editing an old post (that may not get noticed) just remove the contents and point to a new post. Perhaps after a time Admin could remove some of the old empty posts.

Can I also suggest three categories within a post.

        1) seeds offered - this may well be like now, in spring, when people are actively sowing, and the seeds are available. But you have to have collected the seeds in the autumn.

        2) Plants in seed - In the autumn I have lots of plants in seed, and would be very pleased to let anyone have seeds when they were available. However I usually don't bother to collect seed from everything on the offchance that someone might want it in the spring. In the past I have collected loads of seeds that either nobody wanted or never got offered and so I then had to throw them away.

        3) seeds wanted - we might be able to help more if we knew what sort of things people wanted. For instance, if someone said I am looking for unusual Gesneriads, then I could have said - oh I have a Smithiantha and a Kohleria. The Smithiantha is now dead (RIP) - but hopefully I might have some Kohleria rhizomes rather than seed. But as I don't think I saw any seed for either I wasn't going to put those plants on my seed list. But I would have looked for seed if I knew someone was interested.

You want my WHOLE plants wanted list? :heehee: I'd be too embarrassed to post it as I could never either repay the kind people that could stock-me-up, nor have anything remotely interesting enough to offer in exchange ... its all very depressing ...

        I can't take credit for JWK's idea!

This thread has had more traffic than the swap section (from what I see), but as it's not going to mad (yet) I think that for the time being it doesn't need any admin help.............

I'm embarrassed as I'm sat on a load of seeds that I can't offer as I haven't sown my lot yet!

I'll have plenty of plants to get rid of if all goes well!

Simbad - you have a conservatory don't you? If so I should have something rather special (IMO anyway) for you in a couple of months.........
