Last year decided to grow some border plants for a change straight from seed, was advised marigolds were easy to grow and would be suitable for the location, they were easy to grow and brightened the location up but on the downside they ended up about 2ft high, going to do the same again this year which type should i be looking out for that are only about 6 in high..........thanks

What type did you grow? I like the sound of 2ft marigolds.

      Try Tagetes (Pot Marigold).
I've been growing them for a few years now, they're an unfussy little plant which always put on a good show of colour and only grow to a height of about 1ft or less. I use the variety 'Starfire' from King's Seeds.
Not sure of your location and weather conditions, but I'm on sandy soil in a dry area and they seem to thrive on it.
These are mine, photo taken one evening in September last summer.

I sowed my Marigold Tenuifolia 'Starfire' on Sunday morning. Three days later 100% germination and they are 1" tall - that is quick :dbgrtmb:
