The Black Castle in Bristol was right near the Fruit importers yard & some very scary spiders had taken up residence there, black with a red bit on the head.

When you were pointing, they would come out and attack your trowel.

"very scary big spider" are they and the story (had to check it wasn't on the Daily Mail website...) talking about the same spider? [IMG]

What are those funnel web types that live in dodgy pointing?

They get quite big and scary.

Not sure they have a red bit though, but cant half move.

I think that's the one Aesculus, one of my mates is a bug collector and photographer, he has lots of great pics of this kind of thing.
          Very scary when up close.

(so nice to see the nickname in full for a change) yes I had been definitely bitten/stung by something -I haven't seen what-
I imagine it could have been a spider because if I remember well it was two dots quite close.

Had a few of these to watch out for when abroad.

We tended to give them a wide berth when seen.

Otherwise a face full of legs and nasty bite to boot.

When my son was travelling around Australia with his girlfriend many year ago, they had a Redback living in the dash board of their car that appeared from time to time. Their theory was if they left it alone to go about it's daily business it would leave them alone. Which it did.

If it had been me, you wouldn't have seen me for dust! :runhills:
