Tales from the allotment shed "clothing"

Evening all,
Well im a bit early today due to the weather ppppppppp yes thats right pouring down all day,

And as this is a weather thing and if we're going to the garden/allotment even just to check out alls well we need to dress for such conditions and so Thinking of the new to gardening people i thought it's a good idea to talk about what to wear and what to have handy in the shed.

Now for all the years people have gardend one thing can be said ref fashion & clothing! There is non,

Most people who garden wear clothing that loose and you feel good in,
I feel that to wear good clothing in the garden is'nt a good idea and i'll tell you why,
Not only will verious sticking out things such as the thorns or wire off the fence find your clothing and rip it but who really wants to be worried about soil, staining from fruit crops , spillage of liquid feeds, sweat, and the odd tear from such things as bending down?

Clothing needs to keep you warm in the colder times and cool but protected from the sun in the hotter ones,

A good hat is worth thinking about and even gloves (i use ones with the fingers removed)
neck ache due to draught while working is a real "NO NO" so think about a something you like to wrap around your neck!

A baggy jumper for me is a must, "you dont want to feel all tied up"

Thermal underwear for both sex's is again i feel a must, why suffer in the colder days when you can feel warm!

footwear again this is the one area i dont scrimp out on, good working boots are well worth buying "But before using them give them a good waxing with water proof material "Dubin" is an old well tried & tested way of looking after the leather top boots.

I myself buy wide fitting boots so i can wear thermal socks or two pairs of thick socks,

rubber boots,
Again you'll see a load of cheap rubbish for sale,
Ive just bought a new pair after many years wear out of my last pair,

These new boots i bought from the builders supply shop, they have a steele toe- caps and they are wide fit and a good thick rubber.

Toweln
You may think this is an odd item but once you get into the work you'll soon see we're and when a towel comes in handy.

First aid kit,
again even if it only has blasters and bandage in it? it's a handy bit of kit to have in the shed.

A good rain proof coat & overtrousers, (you never know when you'll need them.

Overalls,
these can save your clothing should you not have had time to change from your work clothing.

We're to buy clothing.
Old good jumpers and a lot of the clothing ive talked about can be bought for a fraction of the price of new,
can be bought from oxfam, animal rescue shops. etc etc,

if you buy from these places you'll save a fortune and be doing a bit of good.

Well have a think ref the clothing and start counting the weeks until the start of the spring.

I always use sunglasses when digging since I am fed up with grit getting onto my contact lenses.

 

If grit is a problem on dry windy days, why not sprinkle the ground before you dig? That way the grit wont get to you and you wont doing a roy orbison look alike

 

i just bought this from lidl as i was fed up of getting soaked every time it rained ( and living in wales that is alot)

THEY were £18 and you pay then that just for a jacket !
these are waterproof and all in one, they have plenting of working room and no more wet bottoms from where the rains comes straight off the jacket and straight on to your trowsers :D i cant wait to go try them out now lol
