I'm secretly hoping this will be picked up by some student doing a questionnaire thing that seem to love this place ...

I've got two things that would make my gardening life better.

    1. A lawn mower that I can actually stand up straight(ish) to use. They all seem to be designed to make me bend over just enough to cause the maximum strain on my lower back muscles  - I'm 6'1". Have tried so many, I just give up and suffer in silence, as us blokes generally do. :WINK1:

    2. Secateurs that a) fit my hand, they are always too small as I have big mitts and b) work properly, I've had so many where the lock mechanism is constantly getting 'tripped' as you use them and locking the things up mid snip, and those rubbishly springy things pop out and get lost. I've paid a small fortune over the years without finding a decent pair. Currently using a pair I got in Asda for £2! :D

    Thank you!!

      Hi Fens,

      Can't advise about lawn mowers.

SECATEURS - One of the finest and most robust and reliable were the famous ROLCUT secateurs.

Please have a look at these links:

1 - Pro Quality garden tools tested and reviewed by Fred In The Shed On this link scroll down about halfway to read the article on Rolcut. There are links here to the distributor.

2 - Original Löwe - Original Löwe - This is the company who invented the Rolcut and now have a huge range of top quality secateurs and pruners.

      Hi Alex
Thanks for those suggestions. However, I'll be b***** if I am going to spend 30-50 quid on a pair of secateurs (actually have been sucked into that before thinking quality and long life, how untrue!). They mostly still have those rubbishy tin springy things that pop out. Major design flaw. I'll continue with my 2 quid jobbies for now.

/Goes off to look for the Make Do and Mend section on here, is there one?

      Lovely day out there.
