I've heard of this but not come across it untill now...tonight noticed my old girl Mays leg doesn't look right....the scales are lifting....it doesn't appear to be a problem to her just to me but it must irritate....thought i'd give a go at soaking her leg in oil or vasiline tommorow to smother the lice ...anyone else come across this and if so what did you use....
    Thanks:dbgrtmb:

Mrs Scrungee has a bottle of surgical spirit to treat them with should it appear, which should then be coated with some of my vaseline (used for sealing 'O' rings in my homebrew fermenters before you ask).

When our girls got scaly leg mite, I got some stuff from our local feed merchant that is also used for Budgie's beaks! This, as I recall, you paint on every other day for a few days. Alternatively, I understand that you can dip the leg in liquid paraffin.

Scaly leg is a mite,a dip in liquid paraffin and coat with Vaseline everyday for a couple of weeks,if really bad scrub with nailbrush whilst soaking in paraffin to get deep under scales. The scales with drop off but will recover in time.Scaly leg mite is infectious to your other foul

Both surgical spirit and liquid paraffin are used by druggies, and when Mrs Scrungee bought hers (got both) from a local (Lloyds) pharmacy she was questioned as to why she needed it and had to sigh the Poisons Register.

Did you actually speak to the pharmacist and explain why you needed it?

I think SuperDrug might sell liquid paraffin (they do online)

So if you're intending to also use that liquid paraffin to blast eggs through egg-bound hens, I suggest a perhaps a separate visit to the pharmacy if you're after an oral syringe.
