    Hi just a heads up
Went to and Independant Garden centre yesterday, looking for the blue slug killer pellets,
Along side was an Organic option Vitax Slug OFF like vermiculite that you circle the plants with and they will not cross, However expensive at £6 a 1kg box
Oh they are offering two for one this weekend, So I bought it

Today, I was in Home Bargains store, the same product 98p a box :-(

So check before you buy your Bargain

Hi Jack, does the organic vermiculite-like stuff work?
always feel a bit guilty when killing all those slugs with blue pellets but found no other way so far

Can you take them back for a refund Jack (without spending more than £6 on petrol)?

        Hi Jack
apart from not working for me the organic stuff has to be replaced every time it rains.
Of course in "Sub-tropical" Fife you won't have that problem.:sunny:

No you are right, it is a bit like Pearlite, it absorbs water, and swells ready for the slugs to slide across, it says you can dig it in for fine water retention in your borders :-) after use PLEASE CHECK AND REPLACE AFTER RAIN DUH

Blue Pellets it is then, only I have six blackbirds two of which are hens, two robins and two missle thrushes that ground feed and I would worry about
Starlings which are a pest, the blue tits never ground feed in my garden just the hanging stuff and table

Ive had no luck with the sluggy-cat-litter stuff, blue-pelleted-death appears to be the only thing that works but I really dont like using it. Has anyone tried nematodes ?

        Hi Nick.
If not Wilkinsons sell a big tub - they're the ones I usually use.

Yes Folly Mon, and in the other pound shops, at a quarter the price of independant GCs or less than the big three stores

I went for the organic stuff, trying to be a bit better behaved to the wildlife, not so much killing slugs and snails, as much as protecting birds that may eat them

My plan having read all the faf on of building a perimiter around plants, I am just going to do round the border, and keep an eye on anything that is already in
(12mts by 1mt so do able)
Or I may do that then use the new toy I was given today, a Gas Flame torch weed killer with twelve refill cartridges, a bit like a long barrelled blowlamp :-) which I will scortch the earth with avoiding the plants :loll:
