I have a FB account. I don't have tons of friends on it an I'm very choosy about which friend requests I accept. I use it to keep in touch with friends who live in other parts of the UK/world because I can see what they've been up to and vice versa. I have blocked all apps so I don't get invitations and if anybody starts posting a load of drivel which is clogging up the wall, then they get unfriended.

A few of my colleagues from work are on there, but I wouldn't post anything derogatory about work on there in any case.

It's up to you how you manage it and it can be fun and a good way to keep up with what people are doing. The people I have on mine don't post tons in any case (if they did put lots of pointless posts they'd be deleted anyway).

I also have a twitter account, but I just use that to follow a few comedians whose tweets I find amusing, especially Jimmy Carr.

As I was away on holiday for 19 days, found that using my Blackberry to communicate on facebook was a lark and so fun. Very hard to navigate to different forums using Blackberry. Just saying.

When I'm on holiday I don't want to "talk" to friends. In my book that's what a holiday is all about. Getting "away" from it all!
I'm also one of the minority, I don't have a Facebook, or Twitter account. I don't have a mobile either.

My daughters were adamant I had a Facebook 'account' - had being the operative word - they set it up, showed me all the so-called 'wonderful' things it could do, went away and that was the end of that. I never used it and have absolutely no idea why they thought I would want it. I don't understand why people would think their lives are so interesting that anyone would want to follow every breath they take. Periodically they'll show me pictures their friends have posted (weddings mainly), but these seem to fall into two distinct categories the 'does this woman not have a mirror?' and 'aren't there better things to do on your wedding night than upload pictures to some website?'

Me? I'm old fashioned - I talk to my family and friends or, heaven forfend, actually write to them using a pen, paper, an envelope and a stamp ... remember those?

I had a Facebook account for a while but I was relieved to get rid of it. Signing in became a bit of a nervous tick - I did it automatically but I didn't quite know why.

I don't have one too, and I will never have one, all my family do even my older kids, but I am constantly warned eg protective of my kids so I would be having a go at most people :th scifD36:, my family keep an eye on them and only fill me in if its major.

I find this way of communicating fits my lifestyle. If I could be home and not have to work outside the home I probably would have the time to talk on the phone or visit friends. However, I find it a way of expanding across the globe, getting to know lots of folks across the pond I would not have otherwise ever meet. For me it is a way of widening my scope of learning about others and their experiences.
As I also learn from those on various forums.
