I haven't built mine yet. Been waiting a few weeks to get out of the gale season. Once its built, I'll be able to let us all know how strong it is.

Does anybody have a Botanico pop-up greenhouse? I first saw them at a garden centre last year and noticed that Greenfingers have them in their sale for £79.99 incl P&P:

I think these will become increasingly popular partly because of the lack of glaziers now!! A bottom pane in my glass greenhouse got cracked ages ago and I actually don't know where the nearest glazier is!!:dunno:

You'd get a glass one, second hand of eBay, for that wouldn't you? Won't blow away in a gale if you get a decent one and it'll have some vents.

Sorry, but personally I think those things are a waste of time and money, except perhaps to keep some weather off something precious / tender during the Winter.

The Greenfingers ones I bought last year certainly will hang several plants from their top rail obviously nothing to heavy but ordinary 60 pots no problem. Not sure if you know what I mean by 60 pots thats what we used to call them on the nursery so I would say they are the 3½" across ones.:)

Quite by chance, last night I came across a website that might be able to help you. Here it is:

      Clear Polycarbonate | Clear Plastics

Thank you for the suggestions but as I'm moving in 3 weeks time I shan't bother now, it has strong clear tape over the crack so it's quite safe.

The purchasers are usually like clueless1 to do as you say keep the weather off something
The others who buy, it is a good introduction to greenhouse growing and fires up the gardening bug
This happened to me, my daughters bought me one for my birthday, I was doing ok with six tomato plants until the wind took it and the plants away, only now I had the bug
I had to get a real one ;-)

OK, probably a dumb question but why do a lot of these growhouses/polytunnels have covers that are green or white? Why not clear?

An uneducated guess would be for cheap UV protection, or reclaimed plastics to make the cover ?

Today I finally got round to erecting my cheapo greenhouse. I'm quite pleased with it, although I'm not convinced it will stand up to anything stronger than a light breeze as it is. I've made a few modifications, deviating somewhat from how the instructions wanted me to secure it (4 thin metal pegs meant to hold the frame still, and just 4 tent pegs meant to hold the cover on). Instead I drove some wooden stakes into the ground and screwed the framed down onto them, and for now I've trapped the bottom few inches of the cover under a row of bricks all the way round, as well as using the supplied tent securing style ropes and pegs.

Tomorrow, I will sandwich the of the cover between pieces of wood, and then fasten those securely to the floor. That way it might even last a few weeks:)

I had a few bits missed from my smaller mini-greenhouse, I ordered them on the internet for collection since the nearest Wilkcos is small and doesn't stock them. Anyway I emailed them and they have sent replacement bits. I now have two mini-greenhouses set up inside my proper greenhouse with a soil warming cable underneath.

So far I've found they really mist up quickly, I only have three tomato plants inside and it's full of condensation which isn't good for them, I'll have to unzip them most of the time. Maybe that isn't a problem when they are outside.

I had thought of moving the mini-greenhouses outside in the spring but I'm sure they will blow away, there are no tent pegs, but I think it's too small and vunerable to the wind (in my exposed hilly garden anyway)

That to keep min 10C JWK?

Wondering how well that works? I need to get mine set up today and have been thinking about heating. The Tropic Forum boys have been doing experiments with a 10L bottle of hot water at night, outside, under a plant covered with a duvet and its surprising how slow the temperature decay is ...
