His road manager lives in the townhouse next door to our good friends where we were today.

There is a hilarious story from a year ago ... Cliff went to our friends house with his manager and said 'hi, have you eaten yet, would you like to go out to dinner with us?' and our friends were gobsmacked and said 'oh, we've already had dinner' (which they had not) and Cliff and manager went to one of the locals we go to for a meal with all the Portuguese ... we still laugh about it ... :heehee::loll:

          Fens,
Thanks for the reminder. It's a lovely song and there were a lot of covers of it. When I first heard Sandy sing the song I didn't think it could be bettered but I thought that a couple of years later Judy Collins came out with an even better version of it than Sandy. Thirty years later Judy did this very good tribute to Sandy.

Shiney, it's always nice to rediscover something good. I too am a Judy Collins fan, however, on this particular song I think it is one of the few times I would say that Judy over-interprets so Sandy Denny's is my overall favourite.

Another favourite of mine of the years:

I agree that Joni is another favourite. She did lots of good covers of Joan Baez, who is another excellent performer. Joan is currently on tour over here but the tickets are a bit pricey.

Such good music everyone ... and of course I am a long-time fan of Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez.

We have been having an early 'Spring clean' today rather than lunching at the beach as we have an afternoon finger-buffet luncheon tomorrow and there will be ten of us, so the music was going as we were 'working'. Here were a couple I had forgotten about ..

From 1972 a brilliant piece of music ...

... and then from 1999 another brilliant one ...

Going back to the folk songs of the 60's:-

Buffy Saint Marie wrote many superb songs and many of them have been performed by folk and pop singers - with a lot getting into the top ten.

I saw her perform in the early 60's and not only is she a brilliant songwriter and musician but she has a fantastic charisma.

For the Elvis fans, this is one of her songs that has been sung by over 100 top singers

And this is her performing one of her most famous songs and explaining how she came to write it. The sound is nowhere as good as I have heard it but the story is interesting.

Went to see The Stranglers the other night. They played this song, a relatively recent track from 2006. I love it. I think it might surprise people who only know the punk anthems.
