I don't know what people like Mr Fiddler expect to achieve? High probability that their post is just removed, in which case their time was wasted, but also the risk of public accusations of spamming ...

I assume people do it because they assume that it will give them a link that search engines will use, but if that's the case they are poorly informed as links from Forums like this are all marked REL, so Google et al will not follow them anyway, and as such you might as well leave the link and the thread Ziggy ...

Yes, it was the Banter lot, did you see the incitement to murder & torture post over there too No condusive to good gardening practice if you have to kill everyone that isn't like you. Or maybe they were thinking of all the blood & bonemeal they'd get?

Gardeners Corner has been considering an editorial section where comercial people like yourself could pay for a thread where you could advertise your product and have feedback from the members. If it was legitimate then you wouldn't get the hostile reaction that spammers normally receive. You would still be at the mercy of the members though

Too true Jack, a fiver might have got him global advertising and feed back, but as i've had no further response i'm going to remove his link.

It'll be more than a fiver for an editorial but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

I wont ban him yet, as doing so would delete the thread, and i'd like to leave this one up as an example, you can't take the Peas out of Gardeners Corner.
