I am about to retire, and I want to show my appreciation to My Lady top boss (ie not my immediate boss)
I am not a grovel or a sneak, I just want to show, how much I appreciated all her back room work on my behalf

    A little bit of background
I work for the Gubernment, their law is the law you can not bend it etc

I had a holiday booked and paid for, but needed fifteen days, you are only allowed fourteen
She arranged, I had to travel a day for a job, I had to off course pay the day back, but it saved my paid holiday

Recently after working at the same desk in the same team, four weeks before I retire, the Director ordered the team split and we were sent to several different departments, quite stressfull for all concerned

She managed to keep me in hers against the Directors wishes for my last few weeks

I want to leave, her a card and a bouquet of flowers or box of chocs
She is 45 ish single, very active skier etc though a little chubby

Would flowers be acceptable by a lady even though not often in her home
or would the chocs be a better pressy

Nothing going on, she is a Bitch, but very fair.
I mean I have had my deserved kickings from her though occasionally helped when needed, I may say when she had no reason to do so

I consider myself to be a Gentleman in the old sence of the word, and feel I would like to do this

Buy her a subscription to the National Trust & give her a big kiss, they can't sack you if you are retiring & i've had some right big snogs on my last days at work.

Jack, I would say flowers are too personal and choccies a bit bland. Does she drink? Perhaps a decent bottle of wine. Do you know if she has any hobbies or whether she reads? You could perhaps get her a book voucher.

              Thanks all
Sheal I know she is a member of a wine club, so I would not be able to provide what she would consider good (Oh hold on I know who she gets her cases from, I will ask him)

As I said I would never wish to cross her, she is a real bitch or in the Gubernment she is the DECISION maker on peoples final decission to stay or go after tribunals
As I said we have crossed before but in truth she IS very fair
If you are right she will defend you to the end
If you are in the wrong she will Kill you dead and give you no quarter

I just want to say Hey I appreciated you

Ziggy, it is too late, I only have four weeks to go, and I would need to train on Bovril for at least eight weeks to manage anything

Giving her a subscription to the National trust may be taken as inviting her to enjoy an old fossil :-)

I think flowers may be a bit personal, so I'd go for some chocolates or a decent bottle of wine (if you can find out what she likes).

She sounds as though she's good at her job. A bottle of the right wine seems a good idea.

If she is a fair person then a quick letter or card just to say Thankyou

The words Thankyou for all you have done through good and bad times

I don't think flowers are too personal. Tell the florist who they're for, make sure they're not too big and flashy. They're usually good at choosing suitable arrangements. No red roses and give them to her yourself accompanied by a verbal thank you, don't get them delivered.
