Ok thanks ziggy, lets hope thats got rid of that nasty little bug, thanks.

Now, why does a thread I started not show up in the whats new or watched sections.

It s all so very much like hard work, trying to chase things around, looking back at the main board to find out what is happening all the time as the "shortcuts" dont seem to be up to date.
Maybe it just me, we have changed things a few times, but I'm not getting this one, its very awkward to use I find.
And is driving me to somewhere else, maybe.

That bothered me a first too Pete, until I realised there's no point in looking at a thread I started that no one else has replied to. It won't get any bigger until someone does. Got used to it now.

But it has been replied to Ziggy.
      That is the point.

Also if it dont appear in the new thread section how can you expect a reply,
I find you need to go through the main board to find any new posted replies/threads

      Its hard work.

I posed this last message and its not in the "whats new" section.
OK its not new to me, as I wrote it.
But the only way to keep track appears to be opening one window using the "spy" and another to use to reply.
Unless I'm doing something wrong its awful.

I am 100% with Pete on this bit about not seeing what I post ... and have to go search for it, even to do a simple edit. I am on many forums and have not seen such before ... and hope I don't see it again.

There are some good points with the new forum ... but they are so overshadowed by very user-unsociable and unfriendly elements.

            Pete and Victoria,
I'm sure you know by now that I'm not very computer savvy but maybe I'm not understanding what your problems are.

When I want to see whether anyone has posted on a thread I've posted on I click on 'Watched Threads' - if nothing comes up then nobody has posted since I did.

When I want to see any thread that has been posted on that I haven't put a post on I click on 'What's New' and it'll bring up those and any new posts on threads I have been using.

When I want to look back on threads I have posted on, but there's nothing new on them, I click on 'Your Content' and it shows me all the threads I've posted on and I can then edit anything I've posted.

I don't bother to go to the front page unless I'm wanting to scroll through a specific topic.

I tried 'Spy', which is OK if you want to see postings in real time and are waiting for a specific reply, but I find it disconcerting to have it scrolling down all the time so don't bother.

The only other thing I use is the 'Conversations' (PM's) which I find much better than previously because it links all the same ones together.

If you've just posted and it's not in 'What's New' (because nobody else has posted since you), clicking on 'Recent Messages' will bring it up (as also will 'Content' in 'Profile, together with everything you've ever posted).

What I can't get my head around with this new forum is that new posts are at the top, sticky posts are in the middle and posts that people posted yesterday are way down the bottom so I have to keep scrolling up and down and also I have to keep stretching the pages to be able to see who posted what and when. It has probably always been that way but it just looks a mess this time round:frown:

I don't have a lot of time and energy in my busy life to keep pressing this and clicking that to see what is going on so am finding that this new look forum look isn't really doing it for me and can someone tell me what the speech type thingies are on the front page over on the left hand side of the page.:eeew:

I have to say I haven't been around much as have a few other things going on, but I haven't found that problem Pete Victoria or Kandy.. If you do what Scrungee & Aesculus say you can find the posts..
Yes it is different to vB but overall it is much better faster & up to date software.. a few things are still missing but we shall have them all back soon..
I think the extra security this software gives us far outweighs some of the outdated things on leaky old vB, but that is just my opinion...

Have a read of the posts that were posted as a guide to the new forum software (when the transition was made) called "How To Use Xenforo? Not an obvious forum name IMHO, link to the index-post in that Forum:
              http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/threads/index-of-how-tos.90/

Might help to know why you would want to?

If it has been replied to it will be in "Watched Threads" (along with any other threads you have replied to or are "watching"). That's my source of monitoring what I might be interested in.

It will also be in "What's New" if replied to / watched, and not yet read, as above), that also has any other new posts / replies either in threads that you have not replied to and/or have not marked for "Watch this thread". For something that you HAVE recently read (i.e. it is NO LONGER "UNread") then on What's New use the link, top right, labeled "All recent messages"

In case helpful I described how I use the new forum here:
              http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/threads/monitoring-the-new-forum.41565/

But to answer your specific question about "How do you find a thread you have started." see the FAQ link above under "How can I find my threads and posts?"

See "How can I get (or stop) email alerts for new posts?]" under the FAQ above

On the Home page? (Can't say I've seen them anywhere else.). Not sure a) why you are on that page a lot? and b) what you would expect something like that to be configurable? Knowing the answers to those might enable me/us to make a suggestion. Just by way of comparison I have never needed to use the home page unless I want to get to a specific forum to start a new message, so it might be that I/we can make suggestions on how you might use the forum differently to at present.

I'd like to be able to do that, I haven't seen anything that implied that the number could be changed. I'd like to hear what you found (that doesn't work) as armed with that I may be able to find a fix :blue thumb:

Should be no need to do that. Explain what you were trying to do and I'll say how I do it, and then you can judge if that is an improvement or not ... I'll do my best!

I'm just not seeing that Kandy. I appreciate that's no help, but I suspect i/we could advise you how to get it to work the way you want. I'll need some more help (as I outlined in the previous two replies) to undersatnd what you are wanting to do, and what you are currently doing, to then make suggestions.

              This?

OK so I was used to the old set up.
You just clicked on "todays posts" and it was all there on one page, right in front of you.

Now it appears you have to dodge about to "watched threads", "whats new" and "my content" just to find out the same info.

I'll just spend the rest of the day looking up how to actually use the site, then I might just be able to turn off e mails if nothing else.
