I dont get this ... what are the rules for who can enter or not ? I thought this was for semi pro or amateur artists ?

If doing this ... why not enter Cliff Richard or Madonna or someone ?!?

    Confused ...

Yes, I'm ashamed to say that I happen to know it was 'Congratulations'. How sad is that?

Still, the sainted Cliff had the right idea. Although 'Congratulations' is a dire little dirge, its title is sufficient to ensure that it's the ditty of choice for all celebration organisers who have run out of ideas. Regular royalties for both singer and songwriter - result. Although Slade's 'Merry Christmas Everyone' must be the ultimate moneyspinner.

Guaranteed that we do not win it as we can not afford to host it next year

The Eurovision Song Contest 2012 will be the 57th annual Eurovision Song Contest. It will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, following Azerbaijan's win in the 2011 Contest with Eldar & Nigar's song "Running Scared". The two semi-finals will be held on 22 May and 24 May 2012, and the final on 26 May 2012.[1] The purpose of the semi-finals is to narrow down the participants to twenty-six who will compete for the victory. Ten countries from each semi final will qualify and will be joined in the final by Azerbaijan, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. Forty-three countries have announced their participation in the contest, with Montenegro returning, having last taken part in 2009[2], and Poland withdrawing to focus on the European Championship 2012 what they are co-hosting.

      Interesting Facts:-
      1. We can't get out of the Final - we pre-qualify? How- we keep failing?
      2. Poland have dropped out to concentrate on Euro 2012? We have the Olympics for God's sake?
      3. The Semi-Finals are to narrow the field down to 26 competitors! - the chance to eject the non-Eastern Block countries with half a chance of being popular?

Prediction:- This Year's winner....A Russian Federation Country (How about little Georgia this time?)

Cliffs entered at least twice I think. But Madonna can't she's American, therefore not European. :)

Well a little band called ABBA did quite well out of it I think
As for Englebert Humperdink, we all know how to spell the name and as for a career well it will not be for long he is 75 :-)

Abba was way back when the comp was actually still about music.

Sadly its now become a resting ground for every strange sounding country that was once the Eastern Bloc.
None of which seem to actually understand what it was originally all about.

Hump has had his day, so he has nothing to lose.
Good luck to him but I wont be holding my breath.

Old Englebert is as good a choice as any.

We've got no chance of winning it anyway because it's more about political voting these days than whether the song's any good :dunno:
