Sweet corn

when do I saw my sweet corn seeds please is it to early to saw them in my poly tunnel now if so do I put them in cells or 3inch pots or a seed tray any advice please cheers Mick

 

Its about time to think about sowing them

They'll need a bit more heat to start them off than your poly tunnel though, I expect? Still cool nights in the tunnel, so if you can start them indoors they'll be 3 - 4 weeks before they are ready to plant out, they can be in the tunnel (still in pots) in a couple of weeks time I expect, and then plant out in 4 weeks.

 

Thanks Kristen I'll get on with it what type of pots would you recommend I saw on another thread you were on about making pots out of paper for parsnips would you do the same for sweetcorn thanks Mick

 

Yes, I do the same for Sweetcorn. Newspaper pots for Sweet Peas (they need tall, narrow pots), and Parsnips + Sweetcorn (they don't like their roots being disturbed when planting out) but having said that plenty of people just use normal pots for Sweetcorn and don't have any problems (but ... I advise pots rather than modules as there is less root disturbance knocking out of a pot rather than "prising" !! out of a module.
