Postage is to go up to 60p First Class.
    50p Second class.
A bit steep don't you think?

not considering that the postal services staff are screaming for increases and decent wages....

and the price of petrol/diesel has risen very sharply over the past few months, (and will be going up again soon)

instead of posting a letter .... send an email ... it's instant, and free

    that's what's happening .... that's why they are loosing money ...

my village postmaster told me that if it were not for ebay sales, (clients sending parcels of sold items), he would have to shut shop

I just thought 30% a bit steep..........but on reflection I see we are still one of the cheapest in Europe.

:hate-shocked: That's an horrendous increase. Here I pay 62c (ie, 50p) to send anywhere in Europe for 20g and within Portugal 32c (ie, 25p) and we think that is bad. I am cheaper than Sis pays from Germany but, roders, I think Portugal on this occasion outshines the UK ...

    Well I'm all for it.

    Might help stop junk mail.
I'm sure its junk mail that is propping up royal mail at the moment.
Times I get letters addressed "to the occupier".

And all those postage paid envelopes inside every piece of junk mail, send them back empty, I do.
Is it true you can change the address and still use the postage?

It is steep, but its all relative really. If you were posting a letter to your neighbour just on the other side of town, and you decided to take it yourself, it would most likely cost you more than the postage in petrol. If you were to take that same letter across the country, you'd spend easily more than £100 on fuel. Whereas for a few pence you can just drop it in the nearest convenient post box, and be reasonably confident it will reach its destination by the next morning.

I still do if there's any there!
Stepson used to work in one of these places and the sales manager used to rant (excuse the almost literal quote) "#ffing t0$$ers, don't they realise that this costs us money!".
I used to think that I was just being slightly childish (especially with my photocopied note "thought that this may be of interest to you"), but now that I know it gets a reaction it makes me feel good:snork:

I have had them sent on to me from the UK without extra postage by doing that.
